Education systems around the world continue to grapple with school and curriculum reforms. The rhetoric surrounding reform often emphasizes the pivotal role of teachers as agents of changeโteachers matter if intended reforms are to be effectively realized. Singapore is no exception to this narrative (Wong, 1999; Teo, 2001). Waves of educational reform in Singapore have led to a proliferation of professional development activities in various forms, accompanied by a search for more effective approaches to teacher learning. Lesson Study was introduced in Singapore in 2005 as a powerful framework for teachers to collaboratively examine and improve classroom practices with the goal of enhancing student learning. Since then, many schools have been exposed to Lesson Study through school-based workshops and conferences (Lee & Lim-Ratnam, 2018). This webinar examines the implementation of Lesson Study in Singapore through a universityโschool partnership model that supports teacher professional learning and instructional improvement. It shares a case study of a university-school partnership with a primary school over a nine-year period and explores how Lesson Study functions as a platform for reflective practice, pedagogical inquiry, and curriculum innovation. The partnership has fostered professional dialogue, strengthened teachersโ pedagogical content knowledge, and enhanced the integration of theory and practice. Some key enabling conditions for successful collaboration, included mutual trust, shared leadership, and sustained institutional support. Challenges such as time constraints, differing expectations, and balancing research with school priorities will also be discussed.

Lesson Study is a way for teachers to learn from one another by planning, observing, and improving a lesson collectively. In this case, the teacher collaborates in trying to understand the responses and thought process that occurs within students when they are taught. After completion of the lesson, there is a meeting where the teachers discuss what happened, things that were successful and what could have been done better. In lesson study, it is not only about improving the quality of teaching, but also gaining more insight into how students perceive lessons, their challenges and moments of enlightenment. Lesson study was first developed in Japan about a century ago when it formed part of the normal work cycle for teachers and has now become popular around the world due to its success.
