[NURSES IN DISEASE SURVEILLANCE 🦠]

From dengue, hand-foot-mouth disease, measles, and other notifiable diseases, nurses are at the forefront of public health efforts. Their role extends beyond treatment—they are key coordinators in disease surveillance and health teaching. 🔍

The NurseLEAD team proudly announces its visit to Nurse Christian Santos to discuss his capstone entitled, "Improving the PIDSR reporting of Rural Health Midwives of Marilao, Bulacan" last September 20.

To improve the reporting of notifiable diseases in Marilao, Nurse Christian's capstone includes
🔍 Comprehensive training to nurses and midwives on notifiable disease surveillance
👩‍⚕️ Sustained supervision over midwives and Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) on reporting diseases
🏥 Collaboration with private clinics for reporting diseases, which was conceptualized by Nurse Marlon Alberto in his capstone project entitled, "Data Management of PIDSR notifiable cases of private clinics/laboratories in Marilao."

Nurse Christian and Nurse Marlon's projects show how nurses can safeguard the health of communities with leadership and collaboration. With efforts like these, nurses continue to lead and make a lasting impact on public health.🏥

[NURSES HIGHLIGHTING MENTAL HEALTH IN THE COMMUNITY 🧠🌈]

Transforming People Through Community and Compassion 🫂

The NurseLEAD Team proudly shares visiting Nurse Ma Rhea Line Mendoza to discuss her inspiring capstone entitled, "La Trinidad Municipal Jail and Barangay Poblacion Coalition against Substance Abuse" last August 29 to 31.

Nurse Rhea's capstone involves a comprehensive approach including both the community and La Trinidad Municipal Jail to prevent substance abuse.

🏢La Trinidad Municipal Jail
☑️ Implemented mindfulness activities, workshops, income-generation projects, and health education for People Deprived of Liberty (PDLs).
☑️ These benefit the mental well-being of the PDLs and empower them to reintegrate into society.

🏢Barangay Collaborations
☑️ Barangay training on substance abuse in Barangay Poblacion, Barangay Puguis, and Barangay Wangal.
☑️ These empowered barangays to create their own educational materials as a community-driven approach to prevention.
Nurse Rhea's advocacy is an example of how nurses in different fields can create a lasting change. As the saying goes, "it takes a village to raise a person." Addressing substance abuse truly requires a united community effort. By investing in prevention and mental health, we pave the way for a healthier community.

Empowering Futures, One Heart at a Time! 💖

The NurseLEAD team was thrilled to visit another scholar with a focus on mental health! The team visited Nurse Karla Mae Aguinaldo, whose unwavering dedication to providing mental health support to teenage mothers is making waves in Barangay Sta. Cruz., San Manuel, Isabela.

In a world where teenage motherhood can bring unique challenges, Nurse Aguinaldo recognized the importance of mental well-being for both mother and child. Through the integration of mental health awareness sessions in mothers class, she has created a safe and nurturing space for these young mothers to seek guidance, support, and understanding.

Nurse Aguinaldo's commitment goes beyond the mothers class as she collaborated with the RHU staff and Local Chief Executive in discussions of Executive Order 141 to mobilize resources to uplift and empower young women to navigate the complexities of motherhood with strength and resilience.

Join us in applauding nurses as they foster hope and positivity in the lives of teenage mothers in barangays. Here's to her inspiring efforts and the brighter futures she's helping to shape! 🌟

Empowering Minds, Empowering Care! 🌟

The NurseLEAD team had the privilege of meeting Nurse Paul Ritchie Pelos at Butuan Medical Center last February 8, 2024 to delve into his capstone project entitled “Strengthening Psychosocial Resilience of Nursing Staff in Butuan Medical Center.”

Recognizing the immense stress and emotional toll of the profession, Nurse Pelos took proactive steps to address the mental well-being of dedicated nursing staff. Through his project, he implemented a psychosocial program and team building activities to promote mental wellness and strengthen support systems among their hospital staff nurses.

Thanks to his dedication and leadership, nurses now have access to resources and tools to navigate the challenges they face, ensuring they can continue providing exceptional care to our patients with resilience and compassion.

Here's to nurturing the mental health of our healthcare heroes! 🩺💪

In recognition of the pivotal role nurses play in tuberculosis prevention, we shine a light on their invaluable contributions!

Join the NurseLEAD team in celebrating Nurse Jill Mateo, a dedicated public health nurse champion who has equipped BHWs with a checklist for increasing the quality and reporting of tuberculosis contact investigation efforts. The team was able to visit Nurse Mateo in her office to discuss her capstone entitled “Strengthening tuberculosis contact investigation among adult index cases in the catchment barangays of Pacdal Health Center, Baguio City.”

Since active case finding is an essential component of tuberculosis prevention, Nurse Mateo was able to guide BHWs and HRH in the implementation of TB contact investigation. Consequently, household TB contacts were identified and prioritized for clinical evaluation.

The NurseLEAD team congratulates Nurse Mateo and Pacdal Health Center for their active role in preventing the spread of tuberculosis to the community.

Here's to the public health nurses tirelessly advancing tuberculosis case finding, ensuring early detection and treatment for a healthier community!

Every efficient data management system is built on the shoulders of a hardworking team and an outstanding nurse! 💼

The NurseLEAD team were delighted to meet with Nurse J-Lorenz Dionisio, whose leadership skills have taken our data quality to a whole new level. In order to address problems on data such as time consuming management, delayed submission, and unsystematic data collection and storage, the nurse with his team applied his capstone entitled, "Establishment of a Data Management System for the National Immunization Program (NIP) in the Aklan Provincial Health Office."

The data management system has created a uniform data storage for NIP reports from all RHUs. This has allowed a timely submission and analysis of NIP reports.

The NurseLEAD team extends their gratitude to Sir Dionisio, Aklan PHO, and RHU New Washington for the demonstration and discussions on data management in the community.

Cheers to all public health heroes who have advanced data quality in their community! We look forward to support and update you with your collaboration with WHO for Aklan, Sir JL! Padayon!
