BRIEF HISTORY
Old-world Intramunos is home to Spanish-era landmarks like Fort Santiago, with a large stone gate and a shrine to national hero José Rizal. The ornate Manila Cathedral houses bronze carvings and stained glass windows, while the San Agustin Church museum has religious antwork and statues. Spanish colonial furniture and ant fill Casa Manila museum, and horse-drawn carriages (kalesa) ply the area's 412 cobblestone streets. It is located at City Manila near the National Museum and SM City Manila.
Intramuros is the historic walled city of Manila, Philippines. It was built by the Spanish in the 16th century and served as the seat of government during the Spanish colonial period. Today, Intramuros is a popular tourist destination, with many historic landmarks, museums, and cultural attractions.
OBJECTIVES:
This study aims to develop a comprehensive local tourism development plan in Intramuros at the City of Manila; collectively guided by the researcher’s historical basis, practical, and evidence based roadmap that can be adopted by the local government and community partners to boost tourism while safeguarding cultural and environmental values. At the end of this study, the researchers are expected to achieve the following specific objectives:
1. To attract more tourists to visit the country; learn and discover the historical landmarks, Cultural attractions and other hidden gems offered by Intramuros tourism development.
2. To showcase innovative plans and Sustainable solutions that will help develop the local tourism industry at Intramuros, Manila.
3. To create a bridge and tie between the government, communities and other business sectors to invest, preserve and protect the Intramuros for the future generations; and
4. To develop a new local tourism destination into a sustainable and high‑value tourism destination.
