On-Site Classes Begin for Female PDLs at Manila City Jail

In a continued effort to provide educational opportunities to those behind bars, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), through its Open University System (OUS), conducted its inaugural on-site classes for female inmates at the Manila City Jail Female Dormitory on September 30, 2024.

This initiative follows the successful implementation of synchronous classes for male Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) last week. Now, female PDLs have the chance to experience the transformative power of education within the confines of the jail.

The program, which offers a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in Marketing Management, is facilitated by dedicated PUP OUS course specialists Adrian Gallano, Perla Patriarca, and Milcah Dele Fuente. Asst. Prof. Mark Christian Catapang, the program chair, oversees the program's implementation.

This endeavor underscores PUP's unwavering commitment to inclusivity and second chances. By providing access to quality education, the university hopes to empower these women, equip them with valuable skills, and pave the way for their successful reintegration into society upon release.
