This special day honors the brave humanitarian workers that dedicate their time, skills, and lives to people affected by disasters, conflicts, and other emergencies. It reminds us that even in difficult times, compassion, kindness, and unity continue to resonate to people and bring hope to those who need it most. ๐Ÿซ‚๐Ÿค

August 19 was chosen to commemorates the August 19, 2003 bombing of the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad, Iraq, which claimed the lives of 22 Humanitarian Workers, including the UN Special Representative Sรฉrgio Vieira de Mello. The annual event honors their sacrifice and recognizes the dedication of humanitarian workers worldwide.

It was first celebrated on August 12, 2000, following the recommendation of the ๐–orld ๐‚onference of ๐Œinisters ๐‘esponsible for ๐˜outh held in Lisbon, Portugal. The event supports the ๐–orld ๐rogramme of ๐€ction for ๐˜outh, which promotes the rights, well-being, and participation of young people.

"We cannot stop natural disasters but we can arm ourselves with knowledge." โ€” Petra Nemcova

The weather remains unpredictable, and storms are not our only concern. Even with no active typhoons inside PAR, the Enhanced Southwest Monsoon or Habagat worsened by recent storms Luis and Maymay continues to bring severe weather. Danger does not always come as a named typhoon.

Nearly 586,000 people across 33 provinces are affected. Landslides and flooding in CAR and CALABARZON have resulted in casualties and missing persons. Agricultural damage reaches โ‚ฑ135.3 million, while infrastructure losses exceed โ‚ฑ105 million. This proves that monsoon rains alone can be just as destructive. Stay alert, and act with care and caution. โš ๏ธ๐ŸŒง๏ธ

The International Day of the World's Indigenous People is observed every August 9 to recognize the cultures, traditions, and contributions of Indigenous communities around the world. It celebrates their way of life while raising awareness of the challenges they continue to face. The day also reminds us to respect their rights and support the preservation of their cultural heritage.

The United Nations officially declared this observation in 1994, and August 9 was chosen to mark the first meeting of the UN Working Group on Indigenous People in 1982. In the Philippines, Indigenous People help preserve our country's culture, protect our environment, and turn over on valuable traditions to future generations.

Today, let us show our respect for Indigenous People by learning their cultures, supporting, and showing appreciate. Together, we can help build a community that values equality across all forms of diversity.

It also honors lung cancer patients, survivors, and healthcare workers who continue to fight against the disease.

World Lung Cancer is observed every August 1. It was created by health organizations to educate people about the dangers of smoking, polluted air, and certain genetic factors that may increase the risk of lung cancer. Last July 25, 2026, the Outreach Program Committee, together with Ms. Lala, proudly took part in the Go Volunteer Expo 2026. ๐Ÿ’œ The experience inspired us to continue leading with compassion, serving with purpose, and believing that even the smallest efforts can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
