Kasi sanay tayo sa kultura ng ROI agad.
Naglabas ka ng pera, dapat may pera ka ring makukuha pabalik —
mabilis, diretso, walang palya.

Pero ang hindi sinasabi ng karamihan:
ang pinakamahalagang balik hindi pera, kundi kakayahan.
Kung bibili ka ng bagong cellphone,
bukod sa yabang at pictures, ilang taon lang, luma na ulit.
Kung maglabas ka ng pera sa gimmick,
kinabukasan wala na, alaala na lang.

Pero kapag ginastos mo sa pag-aaral,
kahit simpleng kurso o libro,
kahit maliit na workshop na pinuntahan mo,
dala mo ‘yan buong buhay.
Hindi siya nauubos,
hindi siya naluluma,
at lalo pa siyang lumalago habang ginagamit mo.

Ang totoo, hindi lahat ng gumagastos para matuto ay yayaman.
Pero lahat ng yumaman, gumastos para matuto.
Kung hindi sa tuition, sa libro.
Kung hindi sa libro, sa panahon.
Kung hindi sa panahon, sa pagkakamali.

Kaya kung nagdadalawang-isip ka kung sulit ba ang ginastos mo para sa isang course,
isipin mo ‘to:
mas mahal ang hindi ka natuto.
Mas mahal ang nakatengga ka,
mas mahal ang paulit-ulit na trabaho na walang direksyon,
mas mahal ang hindi ka umuusad dahil nagtitipid ka sa utak mo.

Ok lang gumastos sa pag-aaral.
Kasi utak ang puhunan na hindi nananakaw.
At sa bandang huli,
kung matutong mag-code o matutong mag-skill ka man,
hindi tanong kung sulit,
kundi kung gaano mo gagamitin ‘yung natutunan.

pero pagdating ng dulo, parang walang nagbago.
Grade mo pareho pa rin.
Trabaho mo ganoon pa rin.
Buhay mo ganoon pa rin.

Nakakainis.
Nakakapagod.
Parang sinayang mo lang oras mo.

Sabi ng iba, “Magtiyaga ka, darating din ‘yung resulta.”
Pero minsan, wala talagang dumarating.
Minsan, ang natira lang sa’yo ay pagod at tanong na
“Para saan pa ‘to?”

Kaya nung sinimulan kong aralin ang coding,
doon ako nabigla.
Kasi dito, lahat ng effort mo. kita mo agad.
Hindi mo kailangan ng exam para malaman kung may natutunan ka.
Hindi mo kailangan ng approval ng prof para umusad.
Isang error na naayos mo,
isang page na lumabas nang tama,
isang project na tumakbo mula sa wala,
lahat ‘yon, ebidensya na may nadagdag sa utak mo.

Sa coding, hindi mo kailangang maging top student para magtagumpay.
Hindi mo kailangang maghintay ng “graduation” para makuha ang bunga.
Araw-araw, may piraso kang naiipon.
Araw-araw, may bagay kang kaya nang gawin na dati, imposible para sa’yo.

Kaya kung feeling mo walang kwenta ang pag-aaral mo ngayon,
baka hindi ikaw ang problema,
baka mali lang ‘yung pinili mong aralin.
Baka kailangan mo ng skill na tuwing gagawin mo,
may nararamdaman kang progreso kahit maliit lang.

Kahit isang oras lang sa isang araw,
kahit basic lang muna,
kahit simpleng “Hello World” lang ngayon,
basta bukas, may dagdag.

Hindi lahat ng pag-aaral, kita agad ang bunga.
Pero sa coding,
bawat araw, may ebidensya na umaangat ka.
At ‘yun ang klase ng pag-unlad na kahit sino,
p’wede mong simulan ngayon.
