JUST IN: Garcian Journalists from Makatang Kayumanggi Bag Impressive Ranks at the Division Schools Press Conference 2026

Garcian journalists delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 DSPC held at Lakan Dula High School, with two writers securing spots in the top ranks.

Ang Makatang Kayumanggi, the official Filipino school paper of Carlos P. Garcia High School under adviser Ms. Ninette P. Irlandez, saw March Fe Ramirez place 7th in Pagsulat ng Artikulong Pang-Agham (Science Writing) and Rhiane Victoria Cuarez place 10th in Pagsulat ng Balita (News Writing).

The rest of the delegation faced a tougher battle this year, with several writers challenged to perform outside their usual specializations. Rexielyn B. Doconte (Sci-Tech Writer), Thyra Mae Muros (Feature Writing), Juno Kent O. Telan (Copyreading), Shane Anthony D. Adia (Column), Cyrine Miles Cassi (Pagsulat ng Kolum), John Jhezlie Gabiola (Pagsulat ng Editorial), Prudence Edim (News Writing), Irene Basri (Editorial Cartooning), and Sapphiera G. Osmeña all had to adjust to an approach different from what they had trained for, as judges this year favored a different style of writing across categories.

"Mahirap, na masakit na masaya," the writers shared, reflecting on the shared difficulty of adapting under contest conditions.
Despite not all writers placing, the delegation's performance — and the resilience shown in adapting to new demands — further strengthens the school's reputation for excellence in campus journalism.
