Today, we celebrate International Human Rights Day, marking the 77th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on 10 December 1948, the Declaration set out, for the first time in history, the fundamental rights and freedoms that must be protected for every person, everywhere.

As Dominican and Thomasian institution, we join the UN campaign “Human Rights: Our Everyday Essential,” we reaffirm that human rights are not abstract ideals; they are positive, essential, and attainable in our daily lives and communities.

In the aftermath of Typhoon Crising, Dante, Emong, and the Habagat, many were affected...damaging homes, livelihood, and other resources. As part of the Thomasian community, the UST SIMBAHAYAN Community Development Office, in collaboration with the Office of the Vice Rector for Religious Affairs and the UST Central Student Council, calls on you to help our brothers and sisters who have been badly hit by these typhoons. Any donation you can give (in-kind or in cash) will be of great help.

The first ever commemoration of this event was started in the year 1988 and since then, we have made great strides in combating this virus–thanks largely to the advancements in medicine and technology.

In celebrating the 37th annual World AIDS Day, we honor the lives affected by HIV and stand united in the fight for awareness, prevention, and treatment.
