The 𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗟𝗖𝗢 𝗕𝗨𝗜𝗟𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚, completed in 1969, stands as the first major structure to rise along Ortigas Avenue, heralding the transformation of the Ortigas area into a bustling business hub. Designed by the renowned National Artist for Architecture, José María Zaragoza, the building features clean, modernist lines that reflect the international style of architecture.

What sets the MERALCO Building apart is its use of advanced construction techniques for its time, including reinforced concrete and a unique cantilevered structure. This allowed for large open office spaces without interior columns, a significant innovation in Philippine office buildings. Another distinctive feature is its carefully integrated open spaces and surrounding gardens, which provide natural light and ventilation, blending nature with modern construction.

As the headquarters of the Manila Electric Company (MERALCO), the largest electric power distribution company in the Philippines, this building has become a symbol of progress and innovation in the energy sector. It continues to serve as a key landmark in Ortigas, representing the power and growth of the country’s infrastructure development.
