Interior design students from the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) refurbished recreational and livelihood spaces at Bahay Pag-asa in Cavite City, aiming to support healing, creativity, and daily well-being for youth residents.
Dubbed “SIGLA,” from the Filipino word for vigor, the service-learning initiative centered on the idea of purposeful energy in spaces designed for growth and recovery. The students upgraded the 25-square-meter Bakery Kitchen and the 38-square-meter Recreational Hall under the supervision of the Interior Design Program Chairperson IDr. Katherine Anne Correa and industry mentors IDr. Karol Ann Antonio, IDr. Hannah Kirsten Dumlao, and IDr. Patrick Roy Javier.

IDr. Karol Ann Antonio and IDr. Randy Pabona, educators and mentors of the young talents under the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) Interior Design Program, highlighted how interior design is a professional practice that creates the magic of impact, collaboration, and commitment.
"In the Philippines, interior design has long been associated with prestige and affluence, shaped by decades of high-end residential and commercial development in Metro Manila," they wrote. "Benilde challenges this narrative. Through INTDXHI (Interior Design Exhibit), the program’s capstone project, and its strong service-learning initiatives, the institution demonstrates that interior design is not a privilege—it is a vital service that can uplift communities and improve quality of life across all social sectors."
"The Interior Design program’s capstone projects have reached both urban and rural communities nationwide," they added. "These partnerships treat communities not merely as training grounds but as co-creators. Together, students and community members transform shared spaces that tell authentic stories of people and place."
