FILIPINO DRILL COMMANDS
1. PAGSASANAY NG KAWAL NA WALANG SANDATA (SCHOOL FOR SOLDIERS WITHOUT ARMS)
A. Katayuan sa pagtindig (Position of Attention).
1. Humanda (Attention). {If the preparatory command calls the unit, the command of ex*****on is HANDA/DA!}
2. Humanay (Fall in line) *
3. Masinsing {Pasinsing} Pagitan, Humanay (At Close Interval. Fall in line)
4. Magtipon (Assemble) *
5. Manumbalik (As you Were) *
B. Katayuan sa Paghinga Nakahinto (Rest at Halt)
1. Tikas, Pahinga (Parade Rest) {Tikas, Nga!}
2. Tindig Paluwag (Stand at Ease) * {This is similar to Paluwag.}
3. Paluwag (at Ease) * {The soldiers may move but stay in the formation.}
4. Pahinga (Rest) * {The soldiers may move and may even chat softly within the formation. This command is given for a long wait.}
5. Tiwalag (Fall out) * {The unit formation breaks up but stay in the vicinity to reform.}
6. Lumansag (Dismissed) * {We face about and disperse.}
C. Pagharap Kung Nakahinto (Facing at the Halt)
1. Harap sa Kanan, Rap (Right Face)
2. Harap sa Kaliwa, Rap (Left Face)
3. Harap sa Likod {Talikod}, Rap (About Face)
4. Harap Hating-Kaliwa {Hating-Kaliwa}, Rap (Left Half Face)
5. Harap Hating-Kanan {Hating-Kanan}, Rap (Right Half Face)
D. Pagpugay (Salute)
1. Pugay Kamay, Na (Hand Salute) {This command may be given peremptorily as Pugay Kamay.*}
2. Tingin sa Kanan, Na (Eyes Right)
{3. Handa, Tingin sa Kanan, Na (Ready, Eyes, Right). Note: This is given while marching.}
{4. Handa, Rap (Eyes, Front). Note: This is given while marching, after Eyes Right.}
E. Hakbang at Lakad (Steps and Marching)
1. Bilang Hakbang, Na (Count Cadence Count) {1, 2, 3, 4 twice echoed by the unit.}
2. Isa, Dalawa, Tatlo, Apat {Sa, Wa, Lo, Pat} (One, Two, Three, Four) {Counting is by the unit commander or leader.}
3. Pasulong, Kad (Forward March) {This is full step or stride.}
4. Tilap/Pulutong, Hinto {To} (Squad/Platoon Halt)
5. {Lakad} Patakda, Kad (Mark Time, March)
6. Hating Hakbang, Kad (Half Step March) {Given while marching to shift to half step from full step. To resume full step or stride, the command is Forward March or Pasulong Kad.}
7. Takbong-Hakbang {Patakbo/ Lakad Patakbo}, Kad (Double Time March) {Double time is 180 counts per minute.}
8. Siglang-Hakbang, Kad (Quick Time March) {This is to resume Quick Time which is 120 counts per minute.}
9. Hakbang Pakanan, Kad (Right/Left Step March)
10. Paurong, Kad (Backward March) {The size of the step is the same as Half Step.}
11. Pabalik, Kad ({To the} Rear March)
12. Paulit-Hakbang {Palit-Hakbang}, Kad (Change Step March)
13. Layang Hakbang, Kad (Route Step March)
14. Paluwag, Kad (at Ease March) {There is no cadence. There is a purpose in this, to break the cadence, such as crossing a rope bridge where cadence can make the bride to oscillate out of control.)
15. Liko sa Kanan/Kaliwa, Kad (Column Right/Left March)
16. Pagawing {/Pahilis sa} Kanan/Kaliwa, Kad (Incline{/Oblique} to the Right/Left)
17. {Sa} Kanang/Kaliwang Panig, Kad (Right/Left Flank, March)
18. Sa Lunan, Hinto (In Place Halt) {This command is given after Mark Time, March.}
19. Patuloy, Kad (Resume March)
{20. Pihit sa Kanan/Kaliwa, Kad (Right/Left Turn, March) {This is used to column right or left a company or battalion mass formation. The rightmost file columns right and then do half step. The other files turn half right/left when abreast (90 degrees) of the turning point. Then half right/left when abreast of the new direction of march. When the entire formation has turned, the Forward March is given to resume full step.}
2.MALAPITANG PAGSASANAY (CLOSE ORDER DRILL)
A. Pagtitipon at Paghahanay (Assembly and Alignment of Troops)
1. Tunton-Kanan/Kaliwa, Na (Dress Right/Left Dress) {Full arms length}
2. Masinsing {/Pasinsing} Pagitan, Tunton Kanan, Na {/Rap} (At Close Interval, Dress Right Dress) {Half arms interval is by putting the palm on the hip and extending the elbow to the side.}
3. Handa, Rap (Ready Front) {This command is given for the soldiers at Dress Right to put down their extended arms to their sides. This command is also given when the soldiers are at Right Hand Salute or Eyes Right.}
4. Tunton, Na (Cover-Up) * {This command is given for the soldiers at the back to position themselves exactly behind the men in front of them.}
5. Patnubay sa Kanan/Kaliwa/Gitna (Guide Right/Left/Center) * {This command is a reminder for the soldier using his side vision to align with the man to his left or to his right.}
6. Manumbalik (As You Were) * {This command cancels the previous command.}
7. Manatiling Walang Kilos {Walang Kilos/ Manatili} (Stand Fast {/Steady}) * {This is a reminder for the troops not to move as the unit or command may be getting restless. Also in dressing the line, the platoon sergeant or platoon leader calls out “Steady” after the line is already well aligned. It means to stay put.)
8. Sumalunan (Post) * {This is a command for officers or non-coms to go back to their position in the formation.}
9. Ibayong Dalang Pakanan/Pakaliwa, Na (Take Interval to the Right/Left) {Pakanan or To the Right means the extension is in that direction, Right. Extend both arms to the sides.}
10. Magtipon sa Kanan/Kaliwa, Kad (Assemble to the Right/Left March) {After Take Interval which is two arms length usually done to perform physical exercises, this command is given to return to the normal one arms length between soldier.}
11. Pabukang Taludtod, Kad (Open Ranks, March) {Use this for inspecting the unit by letting the front rank take a number of steps forward computed as the number of ranks minus one. The second rank steps the number of ranks minus two. The third rank steps the number of ranks minus three. The last rank stands fast. Example: For four ranks, the front rank takes three steps forward.}
12. Pasinsing Taludtod, Kad (Close Ranks, March) {Use this command for resume the interval of one arms length plus six inches between ranks. The front rank stands fast. The computation of the number of steps is the reverse of the one for Open ranks. For four ranks, the fourth rank takes three steps, for example.}
13. Sunuran ng mga Tilap {Tilap-Tilap} /Pulutong {Pulu-Pulutong} (In Column of Squads/Platoons) {This is a preparatory command!!! For example, the company commander orders “Pulu-pulutong, unang pulutong, Sa Kanang Panig, Kad!” The company (balangay) is in column of platoons in line, meaning the individual platoons are in line formation while the platoons are behind each other. The first platoon does Right Flank. The platoons in line behind the first platoon execute Forward March. The first platoon leader gives the preparatory command of “Sa Kanang Panig!” The other platoon leaders give the preparatory command of “Pasulong!” At the company commander’s command of ex*****on “KAD!”, all the platoons march off at the same time.}
14. Sunuran Mula sa Kanan/Kaliwa o Isahan Mula sa Kanan/Kaliwa {Again, this is a preparatory command!!! It is given to go on single file starting with the right or left file or column. “Sunuran mula sa kanana, pasulong, kad!”}
B. Pagbilang (Counting -- Call Off and Count Off) {I have to change this entirely.}
1. Isahang/Tuluyang Bilang, Na (Call Call, off) {This is usually given in one breath, “Tuluyang Bilang!” The first rank do eyes right, the next rank eyes left, and so on. Odd (Butal) numbered ranks do eyes right while even (Pantay) numbered ranks do eyes left. The rightmost man of the front rank sounds off, “One/Isa”. Sequential numbering up to the last man at the back who then shouts last number, e.g. “Tatlumpu’t walo, huling bilang!” (38 last number!)}
2. Dalawahang/Tatluhang Bilang {Mula Harap Hanggang Likod}, Na (Count off by Twos/Threes {From Front to Rear), Count Off) {It is from right to left simultaneously for soldiers in column, i.e. covering each other. If it is from front to rear, then the ranks count at the same time (simultaneously) by two’s or by three’s.}
3. Sabayang Bilang ( Count Off) * {The soldiers call out in sequence simultaneously in column from right to left, One, Two, Three, etc.}
4. Mula Harap Hanggang Likod, Sabayang Bilang (From Front to Rear, Count Off) {The soldiers call out in sequence from front rank to the rear rank. This might be followed with another command, “Lahat ng Pantay na Bilang, Alis Tunton sa Kaliwa! (All Even Numbers, Uncover to the Left!”)}
5. Alis Tunton sa Kanan/Kaliwa {Uncover to the Right/Left}
3. MGA UTOS SA PATIKAS AT PAGMASID NG SEREMONYA (COMMANDS FOR PARADE AND REVIEW) Note: Maybe, the main difference in the way we did it in the UP ROTC was that there was less subservience as we regarded it an honor to train UP Cadets whom we highly regarded for having entered UP which was very exclusive at that time. We do not have the “Sir” and “po”in our commands. They are straight forward. We were more egalitarian.
