The increased ubiquity of internet access and social media has made more and more people susceptible to sextortion, broadly defined as the threatened dissemination of one’s private or sensitive material in order to coerce some form of payment, whether in money, sexual favors, or otherwise.

This lecture presents evidence on the prevalence of sextortion, discusses legal remedies available to its victims, and makes recommendations to protect one’s privacy online.
