Canada's Immigration Minister Sean Fraser announced a plan on November 1 to set a goal of welcoming 465,000 permanent residents by 2023. This number will increase to 485,000 by 2024 and 500,000 by 2025, compared to level of more than 405,000 in 2021.

The Provincial nominee program will remain Canada's leading admissions program for economic class immigrants and targets will also increase to 117,500 in 2025

💥Canada's labor shortage with more than one million job vacancies are the main driving factors.

💥In addition, Canada has one of the world's oldest populations. Nearly a quarter of Canada's population, will reach retirement age by 2030. This will create an urgent shortage of workers throughout all sectors of the economy.

📣📣 NEW PATH FOR GBC STUDENTS TO EARN AN MBA AT UNIVERSITY CANADA WEST

🍀 University Canada West (UCW) in Vancouver provides a seamless pathway for eligible George Brown College students to pursue a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. The move will give students more options and greater flexibility to meet their career goals.

This is one of the first inter-provincial dual admission MBA pathways of its kind in Canada starting in January 2023.

🔹 Students accepted to qualifying GBC degree programs who maintain the required grade point average will be automatically accepted to the UCW MBA program, which normally takes 24 months to complete the MBA program
🔹 GBC graduates can also take advantage of this new pathway, and take 12 months to complete their MBA.
🔹 For alumni, the completion time will depend on previous education and work experience

🇨🇦🇨🇦 Canada to allow international students to work off-campus over 20 hours per week

Immigration Minister has announced a new temporary measure aimed at alleviating Canada's historic labour shortages: allow over 500,000 international students already in Canada to potentially work more hours.

🔥🔥 From November 15, 2022 until December 31, 2023, international students who are in Canada and have off-campus work authorization on their study permit will be allowed to work over 20 hours per week off-campus while class is in session.

This temporary measure will also apply to foreign nationals who have already submitted a study permit application as of today. They will also be able to benefit from this policy if Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada approves their application.

🔥🔥 Canada removed all COVID-19 related travel restrictions on October 1

🌻 The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) says that effective October 1, 2022, all travellers, regardless of citizenship, will no longer have to:

- submit public health information through the ArriveCAN app;
- provide proof of vaccination;
- undergo pre- or on-arrival testing;
- carry out COVID-19-related quarantine or isolation;
- monitor and report if they develop signs or symptoms of COVID-19 upon arriving to Canada.

Although, masks will no longer be mandatory on flights or trains within Canada, The government still strongly recommends that travellers continue to wear masks and monitor their health closely.

🌻 Southern Alberta Institute of Technology will open two new post-graduation programs, Project Management and Supply Chain Management, for the February 2023 intake (next intake is February 2024) for international students.

Students can choose to apply for one of these two post-grad programs with a program duration of 1 year or register for a bundle that combines 2 programs with 1+1 to be able to apply for a PGWP up to 3 years after graduation

The common entry requirements of these 2 post-grad programs are as follows:

✅ Students must have graduated from a college or university program
✅ Applicants must have at least 1 year of relevant work experience since graduating from university/college (applicants will need to have proof of work experience, for example a reference letter, from the employer clearly stating the candidate's name, job start date, number of working hours per week as well as details of the job content that the candidate undertakes)
✅ Applicants must immediately meet the English requirements

🔴 IRCC has changed its regulations governing study permit requirements

🌻Students who have applied online for a study permit and are waiting for a decision from IRCC are authorized to start their remote delivery program from outside Canada without having received a study permit approval.

🌻After students apply for their study permit, either 100% or 50% of the time spent studying online from outside Canada depending on the length of their academic program will count toward the length of a Post Graduation Work Permit (“PGWP”).

🌻Students will not have time deducted from the length of their PGWP for studies they complete outside Canada until August 31, 2023.
