Bago ang pananakop ng mga Espanyol, gumamit ang mga sinaunang Pilipino ng sistema ng pagsulat na tinatawag na Baybayin at hindi (alibata).

Ang Baybayin, mula sa salitang ugat na "baybay", ay binubuo ng 17 simbolo (na kumakatawan sa tatlong patinig at 14 na katinig) malawakang ginamit noong panahong iyon na ang unang aklat na nailathala sa bansa, ang Doctrina Christiana (na isinulat sa alpabetong Baybayin at Espanyol).

Sapagkat mas maraming Pilipino ang gumamit ng alpabetong Espanyol, kalaunan ay ang 26-titik na alpabeto ng Amerikano, na nanatiling ginagamit hanggang ngayon ngunit isang inisasyon ng karamihan sa mga kabataan ang muling paggamit ng Baybayin.

In the current times of natural disasters such as floods, heavy rainfall, and landslide, it's crucial to prioritize safety and take appropriate actions. So, CASmates, these steps can help you stay safe and be prepared during these difficult situations.

— Monitor weather updates from trusted sources like PAGASA (Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration), National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, (NDRRMC), and your local authorities.

Prepare an Emergency Kit ✅
— Have essentials like water, non-perishable food (canned goods, instant noodles), medications, flashlight, whistle, first aid kit, communication devices, and important documents ready in case of evacuation.

Prepare Your Home ✅
— Make sure that you have clear gutters and drainage systems to prevent water buildup around your home. Secure loose objects that could be swept away in floods or landslides.

Stay Safe Indoors ✅
— If you're at home during heavy rainfall, stay indoors on the ground floor, away from windows and doors. Hence, avoid going on flooded areas like attempting to cross flooded roads or bridges, as water levels can rise rapidly and currents can be strong. Ultimately, stay away from riverbanks and steep slopes during heavy rainfall and immediately after, as these areas are prone to landslides and flash floods.

Listen to Authorities (DRRM) ✅
— Follow instructions from local authorities and emergency services as they provide guidance on safe actions to take. Take notes on the following hotlines in case of emergency.

Support Community ✅
— Offer help to neighbors, classmates, and community members who may need assistance during and after the event. Thus, the CAS-Student Government is open and encouraging every CASmates message your Mayors or any available officer in need of assistance prior to this current disaster.

Evacuate Early (if necessary) ✅
— If advised by authorities or if you're in a flood-prone or landslide-prone area, evacuate to higher ground or designated evacuation centers before conditions worsen. Proceed with the evacuation area posted and instructed in your localities.

After the Disaster ✅
— Be cautious of debris, electrical damages, contaminated water, and unstable ground. Follow instructions for returning home safely or seeking further assistance if displaced.
