You might be more of a Joshua Zuniga than the rest of the characters.
REFLECTION: I recently watched the movie Bar Boys and really enjoyed it. ( I know, sobrang late! haha) While the main highlights focused on the struggles of the three law students, I couldn’t help but notice that Joshua Zuniga’s character was given less attention in terms of screen time and detail. However, as I reflected on the lessons the film offers, I realized that, in my opinion, Joshua Zuniga actually represents many of us just as much as the three main characters do. Joshua Zuniga plays a crucial role in representing the reality that not all dreams go according to plan, and that’s okay. His character starts off with big aspirations of becoming a lawyer, just like his closest friends. However, when he fails to enter law school, he finds himself in denial and deeply disappointed. This initial struggle reflects the painful experience many face when Plan A doesn't work out.
But Joshua’s journey teaches us that failure is not the end. It's simply a redirection. Over time, he learns to accept his situation and discovers that life still holds meaning and purpose beyond his original plans. What makes his character even more admirable is his unwavering loyalty to his friends. Even when their careers take them into a different world he’s no longer part of, he never distances himself or lets bitterness take over. Instead, he remains supportive, proving that true friendship transcends status or success.
The lesson from Joshua's character is simple yet powerful: life may not go as planned, but it doesn't stop there. Growth happens when we adapt, push through setbacks, and continue to value the people around us, no matter how different our paths may become.
Cheers to ALL Joshua Zuniga in real life! :)
