A milestone for safety and security in school came to fruition at Mangatarem National High School being the first secondary school in Pangasinan to acquire and operate walk through metal detectors.
Signaling the start of its operation, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on September 21, 2026. The event was graced by the presence of Hon. Jensen F. Viray, Municipal Mayor of Mangatarem, Dr. Angelita V. Muñoz, Public Schools District Supervisor of Mangatarem I, PMaj. Arturo C. Melchor, Jr., Chief of Police of Mangatarem PNP, and SPTA officers led by Ptr. Rex E. Bañaga. Department heads, some of the teachers, non-teaching staff, and officers of Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG), Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O), and Barkada Kontra Bisyo (BKB) were also in attendance.
Dr. Elvira C. Viray, Principal IV, expressed her profound thanks to all the stakeholders who extended their full support for this initiative, a strong showing of our shared commitment in making MNHS a safer place to learn, teach and work.
Hon. Jensen F. Viray, who donated one of the three units of walk-through metal detectors, encouraged the learner-leaders, teachers, parents and personnel to work hand in hand in building a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment to maintain peace and security.
The other two units were purchased from the school canteen income. Additional one unit will be installed soon, which made possible by the benevolence of Hon. Philip Theodore E. Cruz, MNHS alumnus and Board Member of the 2nd District of Pangasinan.
The equipment will serve as partners of the school security personnel in strengthening the safety and security measures in the school.
This initiative is a significant leap towards a more efficient, and proactive approach in ensuring safety and well-being of all stakeholders.
