CHAMPIONS OF THE PRESS

On September 27, 2025, Benedicto College BA Communication students attended Sunstar's Campus Journalism Summit inlined with the 33 years of Press Freedom held at Gaisano Mall of Cebu.

With the theme Reaching out to Future Journalist: AI as a Journalist tool, not the Journalist. Students from participating schools and universities were able to study, evaluate, and identify AI-generated content as a significant tool in delivering powerful messages without depending on it.

Additionally, the speakers strongly emphasized that the use of AI (such as ChatGPT, Canva, and similar tools) is not wrong; however, users must exercise responsibility while upholding integrity and honesty. They also discussed that AI has the capacity to commodify certain jobs, but it cannot commodify accountability nor the essential role of field researchers who engage with communities to collect data.

Furthermore, fellow Benedictians Trixcy Cobarde and Yvon Maratas both 4th Year BA Communication students has brought home the title "Champion" in the Category Best in News Report in the Summit.
