The Karakoa / kora-kora is a maritime symbol of these two related nations.
🇵🇭 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗞𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗸𝗼𝗮 - Traditional warship of the Philippines used by native Filipinos, especially by the Kapampangans and by the Visayans during sea raids, the Karakoa is also used as a trading ship during peace time.
The Karakoa are equipped with platforms for transporting hundreds of native Filipino rowers and warriors, known as Joangas.
🇮🇩𝗞𝗼𝗿𝗮-𝗸𝗼𝗿𝗮 is a traditional canoe from the Maluku (Moluccas) Islands, Indonesia. They are naval boat for carrying men on raids for plunder or for slaves. In Maritime Southeast Asia, raiding for slaves was an honourable way of making a living, and the kora kora was needed for defence against raids as well as for forays.
