To cultivate in our minds the belief that there should be reciprocity between any academic institution and its graduates is oftentimes a challenge, even if it is expected to be an understood and unquestionable fact. We, the alumni, are most often dominated by the conviction that we should endlessly remain in the “benefited” side of this mutual interchange. We are to reaffirm our gratitude to her

by re-uniting ourselves and consolidating our efforts in order to assist her when she needs our services and assistance. To materialize this ideal endeavor, the Sacred Heart Alumni Association (SHAA) was formed in 1961 through the combined efforts of Fr. The association was approved by Fr. Michael X. Chu SJ, the then Rector of SHS. Men who have guided it through the first seven years are Santiago Tanchan, Jr., Nono Teves Yu, Victoriano S. Go, Winston Chiong, Jesus Go, Benjamin Bordalba, and Peter Paul Du. Moderators were Fr. George V. Donohoe SJ and Fr. Arsenio Nunez SJ. This Alumni Association offers a great help to many different sectors. We are glad that we have this association wherein we can interact with the different alumni of the school till date.

𝗦𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗔𝗥𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗣 | 𝗔 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲

For Christian Antonio L. De Jesus IV, a Grant-in-Aid Scholarship was more than financial assistance. It was a chance to dream, grow, and discover his purpose.

From a scholar at Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu to a Magna Cum Laude graduate in Computer Science at the University of San Carlos, Christian’s journey is a testament to what can happen when opportunity meets hard work, discipline, and a desire to serve others.

Reflecting on his journey, he shares:

“Looking back, I realized that the Grant-in-Aid Scholarship gave me far more than financial assistance. It gave me confidence, direction, and opportunities that shaped who I am today, and I hope to pay that kindness forward to others.”

His story reminds us that a scholarship is never just a gift. It is an investment in a young person’s potential and a ripple of hope that can reach far beyond the classroom.

Through the generosity and commitment of the school, together with our alumni, benefactors, and partners, we continue to open doors, nurture potential, and create opportunities for students who dream of a better future.

Courage, Care, and Preparedness

The Sacred Heart Ateneo de Cebu Alumni Association is grateful to support the Senior High School of SHS ADC.

Dr. Jorge Oñate, Batch 1992, will be resource speaker for Grade 12 students on September 1 and Grade 11 students on September 4.

Rooted in our shared Jesuit tradition of cura personalis and our mission of being persons for others, this formation initiative reflects the enduring commitment of our alumni to continue walking alongside the Ateneo community and helping shape the next generation of Ateneo Hearters.

In preparation for the sessions, a planning meeting was held on August 26, 2026, at the Senior High School Boardroom with Dr. Jorge Oñate, Mr. Joey Gaisano, Batch 1996, Mrs. Annie Abucay, Senior High School Principal, Ms. Laurice Paconla, Assistant Principal for Student Formation, and the SHS Guidance Counselors.

The discussion centered on how the sessions can help our Ateneo Hearters develop greater emotional safety, vigilance, responsible action, and care for one another. Through the theme, “Courage, Care, and Preparedness: Helping Ateneo Hearters Build a Safe and Supportive School Community,” the sessions aim to encourage students to become more attentive to the needs of others, make wise and responsible choices, and recognize their role in creating a community where everyone feels safe, supported, and cared for.

For the Alumni Association, this is more than an opportunity to share knowledge. It is a meaningful expression of the alumni spirit that connects generations of Ateneo Hearters: to care for one another, to respond with courage, and to use what we have learned in the service of others.

May this formation opportunity inspire our Ateneo Hearters to carry these values with them, not only within the school community, but wherever their journey may lead them.

The businesses of tomorrow will not only be measured by what they build, but by what they leave behind.

This September 4, 2026, Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu brings together professionals, entrepreneurs, business leaders, and industry experts for the 6th Business Conference, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 NN.

This year, we put environmental sustainability at the heart of the conversation.

We are looking for SHS-AdC alumni speakers with real-world experience and fresh perspectives on how industries can grow while becoming more responsible stewards of our environment, particularly in:

🌱 The Art Industry — exploring sustainable materials, practices, and ways of preserving creativity and culture

✨ Alumni Spotlight | The Comeback

For an athlete, an injury doesn’t just affect the body. It can put everything you’ve worked for on pause.

For Andrew Vincent Velasco, Batch 2018, facing an injury meant stepping away from the sport he loves and focusing on something just as important: finding his way back.

But he didn’t have to do it alone.

Along the way, fellow Ateneo Hearter Dr. Pierre Mella, Batch 2000, a Degenerative and Oncologic Spine Surgeon from Asian Orthopedics Center, became part of Andrew’s journey toward recovery.

Andrew’s story is a reminder that strength isn’t only measured by how hard you compete. Sometimes, it’s found in the patience to recover, the courage to start again, and the people who show up for you along the way.

And that’s what makes the Sacred Heart Ateneo de Cebu community special.

Different batches. Different paths. But a connection that continues long after graduation.

For Andrew, this chapter isn’t just about an injury.

It’s about the comeback.

As the school officially launches another year of this mission, the 𝑩𝒍𝒖𝒆 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒋𝒆𝒄𝒕 continues to nourish not only the bodies of young learners but also their hearts through care, compassion, and hope.
