Today, Maguikay National High School joined the nation in a simultaneous flag ceremony commemorating the 10th Anniversary of the 2016 South China Sea Arbitral Award — a historic milestone that reaffirmed the Philippines' sovereign rights and lawful maritime entitlements under international law.

The flag ceremony, conducted across all public schools nationwide, served as a solemn reminder of the importance of the rule of law, national sovereignty, and the collective commitment of every Filipino to uphold the principles of justice and peace in the maritime domain.

With respect and patriotism, the Maguikay NHS community — teachers, students, and staff — gathered to honor this significant occasion. The ceremony highlighted:
✅ The National Anthem and Flag Raising Ceremony
✅ A Message Commemorating the 10th Anniversary of the 2016 Arbitral Award
✅ A Moment of Reflection on the sacrifices of our uniformed personnel, fisherfolk, and coastal communities
✅ A Renewed Pledge of Commitment to uphold the rule of law and protect our nation's maritime rights

📖 What is the 2016 South China Sea Arbitral Award?
The 2016 South China Sea Arbitral Award is a landmark ruling rendered pursuant to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) . It reaffirms that:
- Maritime rights and entitlements are determined by law, not by power or coercion
- The Award is final and legally binding
- It affirms the Philippines' sovereign rights and lawful maritime entitlements under international law

🇵🇭 Our Shared Responsibility
As stated in the press release from Secretary Eduardo SL Oban Jr., Chair of the National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea:
>"The Award finds meaning not only in law, but also in the daily efforts of those who safeguard and benefit from our seas."

The flag ceremony served as a powerful reminder that the protection of our maritime interests is a shared responsibility — one that begins with awareness, patriotism, and unity.

🙏 Acknowledgment
Maguikay NHS thanks the Department of Education, the National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea, and all government agencies for ensuring that every Filipino, especially the youth, understands and appreciates this historic achievement.

📖 ABOUT THE RESEARCH
Title: Promoting Reflective Teaching Practices: Using Self-Assessment Tools to Enhance Teacher Effectiveness

Abstract Summary:
Self-assessment is a crucial tool for teachers in enhancing their instructional practices and professional growth. This action research determined the different levels of self-assessment among collaborative and non-directive teachers in Maguikay National High School. Employing a mixed-method design, the study involved 17 collaborative and 13 non-directive teachers. Quantitative data revealed no statistically significant relationship between teacher classification and self-assessment elements. Qualitative data identified five key themes: navigating challenges of self-assessment, establishing self-assessment into diverse teaching methods, integrating self-assessment into diverse teaching methods, fostering critical thinking and transfer of learning, and enhancing reflection and performance through feedback. The study concludes that self-assessment tools effectively foster reflective teaching practices across various instructional styles, though gaps in feedback highlight the need for more structured and actionable guidance.

🏆 SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS PUBLICATION
✅ First international publication by a Maguikay NHS school head
✅ Recognizes the quality of action research conducted in our school
✅ Contributes to the global body of knowledge on reflective teaching practices
✅ Demonstrates the school's commitment to professional development and educational excellence
