I often get asked: "Is it worth investing in a Heart Rate Monitor (HRM)?"
My answer is always the same: It’s not a MUST, but it’s definitely a GOOD TO HAVE.
If you’re a beginner, an HRM is like a speedometer for your heart. It stops you from going too fast, too soon. It’s great for feedback while you're still learning what "easy" or "hard" actually feels like.
While the data is great, the long-term success of your training doesn't depend on a strap or a sensor; it depends on your ability to tune in to your own physiology.
Don't run by the numbers. Run based on how your body reacts, check your charts because it is easy to interpret than checking all those numbers.
The real goal isn't to hit a specific number on your watch. It’s to get to a point where how you feel matches what the chart shows.
Use the data to learn, but eventually, you should be able to "feel" your pace without looking at your wrist. 😊

Participants in the 2026 Los Angeles Marathon have the option to only run 18 miles—and still receive a finisher medal, race officials announced this week.
Organizers project a warm, sunny day across the point-to-point course from Dodger Stadium to Century City, with temperatures starting in the mid-50s around the 7:00 a.m. start and climbing into the mid-to-upper 70s by midday, with a high in the low 80s. In response, the McCourt Foundation, which organizes the race, says runners will have an additional choice on race day: marathoners who are “having a tough day” can take a turn at mile 18, head to the finish line early, and still collect a finisher medal.

If you are new to running, here is my favorite tip:
FORGET THE WORD "H A R D". 🫡
You may think that you have to suffer to get fit, but that "no pain, no gain" attitude actually causes most beginners to quit. Your only goal right now is to create a fun routine that makes you happy.
Another key tip is to keep a pace that feels easy and comfortable.
Your body gets stronger just by the simple act of moving, so the secret is to finish every run feeling good, not exhausted.
What you may not realize is that your "engine" (your heart and lungs) gets in shape much faster than your "frame" (your muscles and joints). Even if you aren't out of breath, your joints and ligaments need extra time to toughen up. These parts of your body do not get as much blood flow, they take longer to strengthen.
By following the tip to slow down now, you are protecting yourself from injury and building a foundation that lasts for years. 😊

If you are trying to better yourself from yesterday, you may consider these 5 simple reminders:
1. Slow Down to Go Further.
You can’t run too slowly, but you can definitely run too fast. It is usually speed that makes you quit, not the distance. If you are struggling to breathe, just slow down.
2. Less is Often More.
It is better to do a little bit and stay safe than to push too hard and get hurt. If you aren't sure if you should do more, don't. Progress takes time.
3. Don't Rush the Levels.
If this week feels too hard, just do last week's plan again. There is no prize for finishing fast, but there is a big reward for finishing strong and feeling good.
4. Trust Your Body, Not the Paper.
The calendar doesn't know how you feel, but you do. If you feel tired or sore, rest. Always listen to what your body is telling you instead of just following a list.
5. Think About Tomorrow.
Every easy run you do today is a "brick" you are laying for the future. You aren't just running for today; you are building a stronger version of yourself for tomorrow.

The people who don’t believe you can do something are the same people who cannot do what you’re trying to do. 😉

One of the best ways to start the journey is set your vision first, then work on your mission every day.
Congratulations Nicole!

Ambition starts the journey. Plans map the way. Systems build the reality. It may be slow, but real progress always is. 🙂
Congratulations Felix! 💚

People will always have something to say about your goals, your pace or your running ability. Some will judge you before they even understand your journey.
When we decide to be better than we were yesterday, the most important thing is to focus on knowing ourselves first.
When you understand yourself, the judgment of others carries less weight. It won’t define you and it won’t stop you.
