Honored to Support the Next Generation of Researchers in Cebu!

I recently had the opportunity to engage with STEM students from Grade 11 in Mandaue City Comprehensive National High School, and their research group as they conducted their study, "From Ideas to Impact: The Entrepreneurial Journey of Cebu’s Startup Companies."

It was inspiring to see young minds exploring the startup ecosystem in Cebu and diving deep into the entrepreneurial journey. Their curiosity and dedication remind us why fostering a culture of innovation and mentorship is so important.

𝗠𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗔𝗬𝗔𝗡𝗚 𝗞𝗔𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗪𝗔𝗡, 𝗚𝗘𝗡. 𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗜𝗔𝗡𝗢 𝗔𝗟𝗩𝗔𝗥𝗘𝗭

Ngayong araw inaalala ang anibersaryo ng kapanganakan ng rebolusyonaryo at heneral na si Mariano Alvarez. Isa si Alvarez sa mga nanguna sa himagsikan sa Cavite.

Isinilang si Alvarez noong March 15, 1818 sa Noveleta, Cavite mula sa mag-asawang Severino Alvarez at Maria Malia. Sa edad na sampu, nagsimula siyang mag-aral sa ilalim ng pagtuturo ng mga prayle. Ipinagpatuloy niya ang kaniyang pag-aaral sa San Jose College sa Maynila at nagtamo ng diploma sa pagtuturo. Kalaunan, nagturo siya sa mga bayan ng Naic at Maragondon, Cavite.

Naugnay si Alvarez sa pag-aalsa sa Cavite noong 1872, dahilan upang siya ay pahirapan at ikulong. Nang makalaya, nagsilbi siya bilang kapitan munisipal ng Noveleta noong 1881. Nang maitatag ang Katipunan, sumapi siya sa samahan kasama ang kaniyang mga kaanak. Ginamit niya ang alyas na ‘Mainam’. Nagtatag siya ng balangay ng Katipunan, ang Magdiwang, at nahalal na Pangulo nito noong 1896. Nang sumiklab ang himagsikan sa Noveleta noong August 1896, madaling nakubkob ng mga Espanyol ang kaniyang tanggapan.

Noong March 22, 1897 nang maganap ang Tejeros Convention. Nagkaroon ng kaguluhan sa pagitan ng mga paksyon ng Katipunan sa Cavite. Pumanig si Alvarez sa panig ni Andres Bonifacio. Naging kaagapay siya kalaunan ni Bonifacio sa labanan sa San Francisco de Malabon noong April 6, 1897. Nang sumunod na buwan, pumanig si Alvarez sa kampo ni Aguinaldo sa ngalan ng pagkakaisa. Itinalaga siya ni Aguinaldo bilang Direktor ng Fomento. Bagama’t hindi siya naging bahagi ng gabinete ni Aguinaldo sa Biak-na-Bato, ipinagpatuloy ni Alvarez ang pakikipaglaban sa mga Espanyol, kasama ang kaniyang anak na si Santiago Alvarez at pamangking si Pascual Alvarez.

Matapos ang ilang pakikilahok sa politika, nagretiro si Alvarez sa pribadong buhay at bumalik sa pagsasaka. Pumanaw siya sa edad na 106 noong August 25, 1924.

Bilang pagkilala, ipinangalan sa kaniya ang binuong bayan sa Cavite na Gen. Mariano Alvarez (GMA, Cavite) noong 1980. Sa kaniya rin ipinangalan ang barko ng Philippine Navy na BRP General Mariano Alvarez (PS-28).

This is such a remarkable achievement, and it speaks volumes about your hard work, dedication, and commitment to advancing knowledge in your field as you also communicate with the person behind the space to advance your studies.

Your presentation was insightful, and your ability to clearly articulate your findings and the significance of your work is truly impressive. You’ve put in countless hours, and it’s amazing to see all of your efforts come to fruition.

This is just the beginning of what I observed as you presented it to the panelist. It will be an exciting journey ahead. Wishing you all the best as you continue to make a lasting impact in your area of research!
