๐Ÿ—“๏ธ August 6 is a Special Non-Working Day in the Province of Cebu in celebration of the 475th Founding Anniversary of the Province of Cebu, as per Republic Act No. 8952 ๐Ÿ“œ๐Ÿ›๏ธ. Under Republic Act No. 8952, August 6 of every year is declared a special non-working holiday for the entire province ๐Ÿ–๏ธ, including the highly urbanized cities of Cebu ๐Ÿ™๏ธ, Mandaue ๐ŸŒ‰, and Lapu-Lapu โœˆ๏ธ.

This holiday traces back over four centuries to August 6, 1569 โณโ›ต. On this day, King Philip II of Spain ๐Ÿ‘‘ appointed Spanish conquistador Miguel Lรณpez de Legazpi as the very first governor of Cebu ๐Ÿ“œโš“. This appointment established the first formal, separate civil government on the island ๐Ÿฐ and made Cebu the oldest province in the Philippines ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‘‘.
