๐ 475th Founding Anniversary of Cebu Province ๐ต๐ญโจ
๐๏ธ August 6 is a Special Non-Working Day in the Province of Cebu in celebration of the 475th Founding Anniversary of the Province of Cebu, as per Republic Act No. 8952 ๐๐๏ธ. Under Republic Act No. 8952, August 6 of every year is declared a special non-working holiday for the entire province ๐๏ธ, including the highly urbanized cities of Cebu ๐๏ธ, Mandaue ๐, and Lapu-Lapu โ๏ธ.
This holiday traces back over four centuries to August 6, 1569 โณโต. On this day, King Philip II of Spain ๐ appointed Spanish conquistador Miguel Lรณpez de Legazpi as the very first governor of Cebu ๐โ. This appointment established the first formal, separate civil government on the island ๐ฐ and made Cebu the oldest province in the Philippines ๐ต๐ญ๐.
