A Voice That Has Chronicled Philippine Art, Inspiring a New Generation

GK College was deeply honored to welcome Cid Reyes - Filipino artist, distinguished art critic, author, and advocate of Philippine art and culture - as Commencement Speaker at the 5th Commencement Exercises of GK College of Business, Arts, and Technology.

Drawing from a lifetime devoted to Philippine art, writing, criticism, and cultural advocacy, Reyes shared his reflections and wisdom with the graduating class as they prepared to begin a new chapter in their lives and professions.

For our graduates in Fine Arts, Multimedia Arts, and Information Systems, his presence carried a special significance: they heard from a cultural figure whose work has helped document, interpret, and bring greater understanding to the lives and works of Filipino artists.

More than a commencement address, it was an encounter between generations - a respected voice in Philippine art passing on insight, experience, and encouragement to the artists, creatives, and professionals of tomorrow.

GK College extends its heartfelt gratitude to Cid Reyes for becoming part of this important milestone in the College's history and, most importantly, in the lives of our graduates.

Meet Sir Carlito Camahalan Amalla, or Sir Camahalan to his students. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts major in Sculpture and a Master of Arts major in Art History, both from the University of the Philippines Diliman.

Sir Camahalan advocates for Indigenous cultural preservation, Agusan Manobo heritage, Suyam embroidery, arts education, Indigenous knowledge documentation, puppetry and storytelling, ecological awareness, and community empowerment through the arts. His interests include visual arts such as painting, sculpture, ceramics, and printmaking, as well as music and puppet theatre arts. He also values both core values and the values of Indigenous Peoples, incorporating these principles into his practice and teaching.
