FACEBOOK a Boon or a Bane?
When we think of social media, we think of FACEBOOK, TWEETER, INSTAGRAM and others probably YOUTUBE and yes WORLD WAR CRAFT gamers call DOTA. It takes in different forms. But basically, it is an interaction among people and individuals, virtually. Nevertheless, FACEBOOK , a social networking site still gets the crown of the most widely used social media. I must say that although prevalent and an account in this site makes one IN socially and stay connected with other people, doesn't mean that pupil like me must have one too. A big NO!
I have to be honest that I was a curious cat wondering what happens when my mother, father, brothers and sisters, all would take a selfie and post on Facebook., so I tried registering an account on FACEBOOK. I wondered why they would spend so much time with it browsing and reading. Guess what, I was declined because I am just 11 and the requirement is 18 years old. Then, I overheard my classmates talking about who liked their posts. I bet they faked their age just to create an account. One big fat lie. A shame to us who were taught by our parents and teachers not to lie.
Now, who could make Facebook seem right for us pupils when in the first place the site itself does not recommend school children to have?
The age restriction is for our own good. Although it may be helpful for a smooth communication among friends and family, but the accessibility of profanity and lies is harmful. I saw youths who spend most of their time on this site neglecting to spend it in a more productive manner.
It is necessary to be informed with what is going around us, however, not all the information and updates may be of valuable result most especially that these are mere from the public and there were no validation done.
Functionality
The new 4-storey building or simply New Building B for the sake of distinction from last year’s new building which will be used for the Technical-Vocational subjects of Grade 11 was finally turned over to Jose Fabella Memorial School on August 26, 2014 in less than a year since it started its construction in summer of the same year. The construction was fast compared to last years new building’s construction but still it still of no significant use.
The new building A which was turned over last year was in full function including the power supply in less than two months after its blessing. The hastening of the administration to make it functional as soon as possible was for the sake of the Grade 7 and 8 students and teacher-advisers who were occupying the building since the start of the school year. A considerable time to endure the heat although sometimes there was free ventilation. Still, it was functional initially and it benefited the students. The new building B, however, seem not to serve its purpose of functionality. It lacks electric fans, lighting and especially, electrical supply. Except for some conferences for students held once in a while at one of the rooms and poster and slogan contests during monthly celebrations, the building is just an ornament. It doesn't even have chairs!
It can be harshly assume that the building doesn't need to be 100% ready for occupancy because it should be, just in next two years. The old building for skills training is still doing fine unless the Honorable Congressman Neptali A. Gonzales fulfills his promise to put up another building in replacement.
Think about how impractical it could be for these rooms to be empty and dysfunctional in the next several months disregarding the congestion of 30+ pupils in some classrooms, teachers who don’t know where to conduct remedial lessons, overused E.P.P room for T.Q.C and to mention, a place to conduct Staff Meeting.
It should also be kept in mind that the building is especially designed for teaching vocational courses and somehow inappropriate for some functions, however, instead of leaving it empty for several months and maybe years, be it somehow, an avenue to some activities where they can be done comfortably.
Laudable as it should be, the administration might be able to strive to bring in some means to make these rooms functional before the true recipients claim them. In return, those who’d be using the facility would be responsible and careful to keep the borrowed property in shape.

Way to go to Metro Manila Young Writers Conference and Contests

"It is not just about winning but the journey that matters", said Dr. Nerissa L. Losaria, Officer-in-charge of the Division of Mandaluyong during the Opening Ceremony and Individual Contests of the 2014 Division Young Writers' Conference and Contests held at Hulo Elementary School this morning until 1 in the afternoon.
This was conceded by the coaches and trainers as well as the 12 participants of JFMS as they accepted the challenge to secure a place in the division level competition and spot for the Metro Manila Young Writers Conference and Contests in Valenzuela in October.
Coming back from a win during last year's competition were Kenard L. Pena, photojournalist and John Paul C. Aguila, editorial writer (Fil). Contestants Julia Joy Manzano and Cristina Aquino;News Writing, Arvin Rullan;Sports Writing, Daniella Salarda and Carolina Buala; Copyreading and Headline Writing and Adrian San Gaspar; Editorial Cartooning were again competing in the same category. New writers were Angelica Romero; Scientific Writing, Reynaldo Saniel; Photojournalism and Janie Ann Fabricante; Feature Writing.
2014 is the second year of Ms. Melyn Sacueza, and Ms. Ma. Concepcion Calde's participation to the young writers' conference and contests as trainers of the different categories. Sports Writing, News Writing,Editorial Writing, Photojournalism were categories trained by Ms. Sacueza. Ms. Concepcion trained the cartoonist and feature writers. Both teachers were advisers of Grade V and IV respectively and alumnus of the same university.
Attempting to transfer her skill in Copyreading and Headline Writing (English/Filipino) was Ms. Madirose Victorio, a Grade IV adviser who shared the same alma matter with the latter trainers. Also, Ms. Lady Ann R. Lacson, coming from a different university, a Grade V adviser trained the newly added category which is Scientific Writing (Filipino). They are both English majors.
Considered neophyte in the field, the trainers trained the contestants with their only "experiences" during school days as springboard. With only a little time left for training because of the suspensions caused by typhoon Glenda, they met the pupils only during their break and free-time for more than a week.
The team young writers and coaches were waiting for the awarding of the winners for the individual contest which will be held at Dona Pilar E. Gonzala Elementary School on August 22 and hoping that they will bring home wins.
