The spirit of excellence, creativity, and communication filled the CPSC Arena yesterday. The second-year and third-year English students gathered for the much-awaited 2026 English Extravaganza. The whole day event showcased the talents and skills of English majors through various academic and performance-based competitions.
Eight groups participated and represented their respective classes in the exciting contests prepared for the celebration. Mrs. Janet U. Mejos, the program head of English Department, started the program by presenting her opening remarks that was super-headed by Sir Mark A. Palad, the English Instructor.
The morning session featured the Quiz Bowl and Extemporaneous Speaking Contest, while the afternoon highlighted the Declamation Contest and the much-anticipated Speech Choir Competition.
In the Quiz Bowl competition, English 3A Group 1 emerged victorious and secured the championship title. The contest required teams of three members to compete in testing their knowledge and critical thinking abilities.
Meanwhile, the Extemporaneous Speaking Contest was dominated by the representative from English 2A Group 1, who impressed the judges with confidence, fluency, and strong delivery.
During the afternoon contests, the participant from English 2B Group 1 claimed the victory in the Declamation Contest, captivating the audience through expressive interpretation and emotional performance.
The highlight of the event, the Speech Choir Competition, brought energy and excitement to the arena. After a remarkable presentation filled with synchronization, creativity, and powerful delivery, English 3A Group 1 successfully earned the championship title once again, achieving a back-to-back win from their previous victory.
The event concluded with the announcement of the overall champions. English 2B Group 2 was declared 3rd Runner-Up with a total of 12 points. English 3A Group 1 secured the title of 2nd Runner-Up with 17 points. Rising above all competitors, English 3B Group 1 was crowned the Overall Champion after earning an impressive total of 19 points.
The 2026 English Extravaganza becomes more than just a competition; it was a celebration of talent, teamwork, and the passion of English students in showcasing their excellence in communication and performance.

The first day of our recruitment screening for SY 2026-2027 officially wrapped up today at the Memoir office. While the room wasn't as packed as we expected, the energy brought by those who showed up was definitely top-tier. Weโre ready to see how these fresh perspectives will shape the next chapter of our publication.
Out of the nine eager applicants who signed up through our Google Form, three dedicated souls made it to the hot seat today. We officially met two aspiring writers ready to bleed ink and one talented cartoonist with a sharp eye for detail. Itโs always a thrill to see such raw potential walking through our doors on day one.
Of course, we noticed a few empty chairs, as most of our applicants had to prioritize pressing academic matters and sudden deadlines. We totally get the grind, especially with finals season approaching over everyone's heads like a dark cloud. School always comes first, but that doesn't mean your chance to join the team is gone.
If you were one of those who couldn't make it today, don't sweat it just yet! You are still very much invited to join us for the second day of screening to showcase your skills. Weโre still looking for the voices and visions that will define our campus narrative this coming year.
The hunt for the next generation of storytellers is far from over, and the office door is still open. Whether youโre a wordsmith or a visual artist, we want to see what youโve got. See you at the next session, and letโs make this yearโs Memoir staff the best one yet!
