The Many Voices of a Teacher
โClass, quiet please!โ
โOkay, everyone, eyes on me.โ
โStop talking at the back!โ
โMay nakikinig ba sa akin?โ
โLast warning na โto.โ
โPass your papers forward.โ
โWalang lalabas ng classroom.โ
โAnak, kumain ka na ba?โ
โOkay ka lang?โ
โMag-ingat ka pauwi.โ
โKaya mo โyan, anak.โ
These are just some of the familiar lines we hear inside a classroom.
Some are strict.๏ฟฝSome are funny.๏ฟฝSome are repeated almost every day.
And sometimes, students even know exactly what comes next after the teacher says, โClassโฆโ
But behind these familiar words is something that goes beyond classroom management, lesson plans, grades, and attendance.
There is care.
Because a teacherโs voice has many versions.
May teacher voice na kayang patahimikin ang buong classroom in three seconds.
May voice na paulit-ulit na nagsasabing, โPlease listen. This is important.โ
May voice na nagiging mas seryoso kapag may ginagawang mali ang isang estudyante.
At may voice rin na biglang lumalambot kapag ang tawag ay:
โAnakโฆโ
โAnak, bakit hindi ka kumain?โ
โAnak, bakit tahimik ka ngayon?โ
โAnak, okay ka lang ba?โ
โAnak, huwag kang susuko.โ
Funny how a teacher can call a student โanakโ even when they are not their own child.
But perhaps that is one of the most beautiful things about being a teacher.
Because somewhere between checking papers, explaining lessons, reminding students about deadlines, and saying โLast warning!โ, teachers slowly become part of their studentsโ stories.
A teacher may say, โBakit hindi mo ginawa?โ
But behind those words is often,๏ฟฝโAlam kong kaya mo. Bakit hindi mo sinubukan?โ
A teacher may say, โMag-aral ka.โ
But what they really mean is,๏ฟฝโGusto kong magkaroon ka ng mas magandang kinabukasan.โ
A teacher may say, โHuwag kang susuko.โ
Because sometimes, the teacher believes in the student even before the student learns to believe in themselves.
Inside the classroom, teachers witness things that are not always written in the class record.
They see the student who suddenly becomes confident.
The student who finally understands the lesson after several attempts.
The student who used to be afraid of answering but eventually raises a hand.
The student who struggles academically but continues to show up.
The student who smiles in class even when something may be difficult outside the classroom.
And sometimes, teachers never really know how much their simple words matter.
A casual โGood job!โ
A quiet โKaya mo โyan.โ
A simple โIโm proud of you.โ
Or even a firm,
โAnak, ayusin mo. Alam kong kaya mo pa.โ
Years later, students may forget the exact lessons they learned.
They may forget the formulas, definitions, activities, and examinations.
But they may remember the teacher who stayed.
The teacher who corrected them.
The teacher who challenged them.
The teacher who listened.
The teacher who believed.
And most especially, the teacher who called them โanak.โ
As we begin this yearโs Teachersโ Month Celebration, let us listen again to the many voices of our teachersโthe strict voice, the funny voice, the tired voice, the encouraging voice, and the loving voice.
Because behind every โListen!โ, there is a teacher who wants you to learn.
Behind every โDo better,โ there is someone who believes you can.
Behind every โBe careful,โ there is someone who cares.
And behind every โAnakโฆโ
there is a teacher who, in their own little way, is saying:
โYou matter.โ
Today, as we officially open our Teachersโ Month Celebration, we celebrate not only the teachers who stand in front of the classroom, but also the people behind the voiceโtheir patience, sacrifices, laughter, lessons, and love.
To every teacher who continues to show up, teach, listen, correct, encourage, and believe:
This celebration is for you.
Because every classroom has a teacher with a voice.
But behind that voice is a heart that cares.
Happy Teachersโ Month!
And to all our teachersโ
thank you for being more than a teacher.๏ฟฝThank you for being someone who believed.
