๐ค๐ช๐ง๐ฃ๐๐ก, 34(1), 1โ15 โ a Scopus [Q2] and Web of Science [Emerging Sources Citation Index ESCI]-indexed international journal published by Human Kinetics, in partnership with the University of North Carolina at Greensboroโs Program for the Advancement of Girls and Women in Sport and Physical Activity. Human Kinetics is an international publisher specializing in scholarly and professional resources across sport, physical activity, kinesiology, health, and related fields.
Drawing on 1,173 Scopus-indexed documents across 520 sources, the study mapped a decade of gender equity scholarship in sport, Physical Education, and physical activity. The findings revealed that the field has moved beyond simply asking whether women are visible or represented toward deeper questions of whether they are supported, trusted, recognized, resourced, and given genuine opportunities to lead.
The review further showed that gender equity scholarship has become increasingly interdisciplinary, connecting participation, leadership, coaching, pedagogy, media visibility, institutional power, and knowledge production. Yet, the research landscape remains uneven, with scholarly authority and international collaboration still concentrated largely within influential Anglophone and European research systems.
Moving beyond numerical representation, the article advances a ๐ด๐ฒ๐ป๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ฒ๐พ๐๐ถ๐๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฐ๐ต๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐ฎ๐ด๐ฒ๐ป๐ฑ๐ฎ centered on opportunity, authority, knowledge geopolitics, and intersectional accountability. It argues that genuine equity requires examining not only who gains entry into sport and movement spaces, but also who receives support after entry, whose expertise is trusted, whose knowledge becomes authoritative, and who is ultimately allowed to lead.
This research contributes to global development efforts aligned with Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), 4 (Quality Education), 5 (Gender Equality), 10 (Reduced Inequalities), 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
Congratulations to Dr. Lobo and the research team on this noteworthy international scholarly achievement and on contributing to the continuing global conversation on gender equity, womenโs leadership, inclusion, and structural transformation in sport and movement spaces!
