Hindi madaling mabulok ang plastik, kaya’t nananatili ito sa kapaligiran sa loob ng daan-daang taon. Sa pagdaan ng panahon, nadudurog ito sa microplastics na nalalason ang mga hayop, sumisira sa ating pinagkukunan ng pagkain, at nagdudulot ng banta sa kalusugan. Isa rin ito sa mga pangunahing sanhi ng pagbaha dahil bumabara ito sa mga kanal at estero.

Ngayong International Plastic Bag Free Day, hamon sa ating lahat ang maging mas responsable sa ating mga desisyon. Iwasan ang single-use plastic bags at gamitin ang mga reusable na alternatibo gaya ng eco bags, bayong, o telang bag. Simulan natin ang pagbabago sa pamamagitan ng pagtuturo ng tamang waste segregation, at pagsuporta sa circular economy sa mga tahanan, paaralan, at komunidad. Ang simpleng hakbang ngayon ay may malaking epekto sa kinabukasan ng ating planeta.
