Malolos Marine Fishery School and Laboratory Grade 10 Students Participate in Mandatory Simultaneous Earthquake Drill

On Monday, October 13, 2025, at exactly 8:30 AM, the Grade 10 students of the Malolos Marine Fishery School and Laboratory (MMFSL) actively participated in the Mandatory Simultaneous Earthquake Drill. This nationwide exercise is crucial for preparing students and staff for potential seismic events.

Promoting Preparedness and Safety

The drill emphasized the importance of being knowledgeable and prepared in the event of an earthquake. Students were instructed on the proper procedures to follow:

a. "Drop, Cover, and Hold On": Immediately upon the alarm signaling a quake, students practiced dropping to the ground, taking cover under sturdy tables or desks, and holding on until the shaking stopped. This fundamental technique is designed to protect against falling debris.

b. Evacuation: Once the simulated shaking subsided, the students were led by their teachers in an organized and quick evacuation from their classrooms. They proceeded to the designated safe assembly area in the school grounds.

c. Count and Reporting: In the assembly area, class advisers conducted a swift and accurate head count to ensure all students were accounted for, a critical step in post-disaster response.

Key Takeaways

The participation of the MMFSL Grade 10 students in this drill highlights the school's commitment to disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM). Such regular drills help to:

1. Ingrain proper safety protocols into the students' muscle memory.
2. Test the efficiency of the school's evacuation routes and emergency procedures.
3. Foster a culture of safety and readiness among the school community.

By actively engaging in the simultaneous earthquake drill, the Grade 10 students are now better equipped to respond effectively and safely in a real-life earthquake scenario.
