🎓 Alumni of the Month – January 🎓

We proudly begin the year by recognizing Al-Naizar Kadil Andao (Batch 2021), a BulSUan whose journey reflects academic excellence, faith, humility, and service to the community. His story exemplifies how success is shaped not only by achievements, but by purpose and compassion. 🌱✨

Al-Naizar graduated Magna Cum Laude, earning distinctions for Best Thesis and Best in Specialization, underscoring his dedication to scholarship and research. His academic journey culminated in an outstanding performance in the 2025 Computer-Based Librarian Licensure Examination, where he ranked Top 5 nationwide. He is also being recognized as the first Tausug Topnotcher in the Librarian Licensure Examination in the tribe. 📚🏅

Professionally, Al-Naizar began his career as a Faculty Member at Notre Dame of Jolo College – Senior High School, contributing to the education and development of young learners. He currently serves as a College Librarian at Mindanao State University – Sulu, where he supports instruction, research, and access to information for students and faculty. He is also an active member of the Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. (PLAI), strengthening his professional engagement in librarianship.

Beyond formal roles and recognition, Al-Naizar values voluntary service and community involvement. Returning to his hometown allowed him to engage with people whose lived experiences shaped his values and decision-making. He considers it a personal achievement to extend help whenever possible, believing that small acts of service can create meaningful change. 🤝

💬 A Reflection from Al-Naizar:

“Taking the board examination made me experience one of the most vulnerable versions of myself. As a Muslim, it became an avenue for me to reconnect with Almighty Allah. At the end of the day, we have no control over the results. This helped me stay grounded and transform doubt and anxiety into a more positive outlook.”

He shares this advice with future LLE takers:

Take the board examination when you are ready—when you truly want it, when you are willing to give your all, and when you clearly know your why.

As we wrap up the month of November, we proudly honor John Israel J. Centeno, a standout BulSUan whose dedication to software engineering, continuous learning, and excellence has defined his remarkable journey in the tech industry. His story is an inspiring reminder that great things begin with passion, persistence, and purpose. 💻✨

John Israel began his career at Planbook Inc., a U.S.-based company specializing in educational software used by teachers worldwide. In February 2022, he joined as a Full Stack Software Developer, quickly proving his expertise in building dynamic, high-quality applications. His skills and drive for improvement earned him a promotion to Software Engineer in May 2022, where he continued to contribute to major product features and system enhancements. 🚀

By June 2025, barely three years into the industry, John Israel advanced to the role of Senior Software Engineer — a milestone that reflects his strong technical foundation, leadership maturity, and commitment to delivering exceptional work. Today, he continues to serve in this role at Planbook Inc., helping shape solutions that support educators and enhance digital learning productivity. 🌍📘

His journey is reinforced by strong academic achievements, certifications, and recognitions, including:

🔐 Cyber Security Foundation Professional Certificate – CSFPC (2021)

Even during his student years, John Israel’s excellence in programming shone through competitive arenas:

🎓 Alumni of the Month – October 🎓

This October, we proudly recognize Patrolman Soler R. Cañete, a proud BulSUan whose dedication, integrity, and excellence shine in the field of law enforcement and cybersecurity. From classrooms to command posts, his story is one of discipline, leadership, and lifelong learning. 💻🇵🇭✨

Before joining the police force, Soler began his professional career as a Business Systems Analyst at Prime Global Corporation (August 2019 – January 2020), where he developed a strong foundation in data analysis and system operations. In October 2020, he took a bold step forward and joined the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP ACG) — combining his IT expertise with his commitment to public service. 👮‍♂️

Within the PNP ACG, Patrolman Cañete has served in vital technical and research roles, including:

💻 Cyber Research Analyst – Cyber Security Unit (December 2021 – May 2025)

🧠 Cybercop / Specialized Training – Administrative and Resource Management Division (May 2025 – Present)

“Handle your stress and achievements with composure. Wag mong ilabas ang luha mo sa mga failures mo sa buhay. Dapat ilabas mo yan kapag may napagtagumpayan ka. Being a BULSUAN, dito ko natagpuan ang perfect barkada, perfect thesis mates, and perfect classmates. Sa PNP ACG naman, naranasan ko ang mag-work sa isang healthy environment — tanggap ako dito kung sino ako. Always remember that if you know your worth, you will always be recognized.” 💪✨

🎓 Alumni of the Month – September 🎓

As we close the month of September, we proudly celebrate Jharry Tan (BSIT 4A, Batch 2017) as our Alumni of the Month. Her journey from the printing industry in the Philippines to the jewelry and creative design field in Dubai is a testament to resilience, innovation, and continuous growth. 🌟✨

Jharry began her career at Karatula Printing Company in Caloocan (2017–2019), where she sharpened her creative and technical skills. In 2019, she joined Denovo Jewels, a high-end accessories and silver jewelry company in the UAE, where she has now built a 6-year career.

For three years, she thrived as a Jewelry Designer, creating unique and elegant pieces for entrepreneurs and the company’s own brand. One of her proudest achievements was having one of her designs showcased at the EXPO Jewelry Exhibition, later introduced successfully into the UAE market. 💎

Her role has since expanded, and she now works as a Multimedia Designer and Brand Visual Strategist. In this dual capacity, Jharry:

🎨 Designs and produces creative content, graphics, and digital visuals

📸 Directs brand storytelling through photoshoots and visual campaigns

📢 Aligns branding strategies across social media and customer engagement platforms

To bring her ideas to life, she skillfully uses CorelDraw, Matrix Gold, Adobe Suite, and AI-powered tools such as Firefly, Freepik AI Suite, Nano Banana, and ChatGPT. These tools empower her to combine artistry and technology, elevating Denovo’s branding and design to greater heights. 🚀✨

Reflecting on her journey, Jharry shares an important reminder:

As we wrap up the month of August, we proudly shine the spotlight on Charlene Almeyda, a trailblazing alumna of BulSU CICT, Section A Batch 2016. At just 19 years old, Charlene began her professional journey in the United Arab Emirates, and today she stands as a dynamic professional with nine years of experience across marketing, events, community building, and content creation. 🌍✨

Currently, Charlene works as a Marketing Specialist at Jetour UAE (Elite Group Holding), one of the fastest-growing automotive companies in the UAE and ranked among the Top 4 best-selling automotive brands in the region. Her career highlights include:

🚗 Launching and growing the Jetour Owners Club UAE, creating a thriving car owners’ community.

🎬 Leading creative themed engagement events such as Cinema Soirée: Mission Possible, Drive & Swing at TopGolf Dubai, and the Jetour Owners Bootcamp – Bullseye Challenge.

📢 Playing a vital role in brand campaigns like the Jetour one-year hoarding (billboard) campaign across Dubai.

Before Jetour, Charlene built a strong foundation as a Marketing Executive at HOPPE AG, where she worked for seven years handling the GCC region. Her achievements included completing product training in the United Kingdom and Switzerland, representing the branch office at global exhibitions in Germany, and contributing to impactful marketing campaigns and promotional activities.

Her versatility also shines through her work as an Event Coordinator at CodeRed Events, where she managed large-scale Abu Dhabi Government events from planning to ex*****on. For her excellence in event management, she was even recognized with an award from the Sheikh Khalifa Award 🏆.

Beyond the corporate world, Charlene thrives as a Dubai-based content creator, specializing in lifestyle, beauty, travel, and food. With collaborations with global and regional brands such as ALL – Accor (Pullman Hotel), Binance, MAX’s UAE, and The Face Shop, her content has reached 500k–800k organic views per post — all without paid boosting. 📲✨

She also holds a Certification in Fundamentals of Digital Marketing, further strengthening her expertise in today’s digital-first world.

“Choosing IT as my degree opened so many opportunities for me, even in paths I never imagined I’d take. Although I’m not working directly as an IT professional now, the skills and knowledge I gained from BulSU CICT have been invaluable throughout my career here in the UAE. From applying graphic design skills during my time at SWITS, to building communities, managing events, and leading projects in my current role, everything I learned has contributed to my growth.

Let us close the month by featuring our Alumni Spotlight for March. Sherlyn Amber Dela Cruz is celebrated as our Alumni of the Month for her unwavering dedication, exceptional leadership, and innovative contributions to the library and information science field. Her inspiring journey is a true testament to excellence and passion in public service.

Currently, Sherlyn serves as a Librarian I at the National Library of the Philippines (NLP) and is assigned to the Public Libraries Division (PLD). In her pivotal role within the Field Libraries, Library Establishment and Affiliation, Monitoring and Evaluation Section (FLLEAMES), she is actively involved in:

1. Establishing Public Libraries and Barangay Reading Centers nationwide in accordance with Republic Act 7743 📚

2. Representing the Division’s Gender and Development (GAD) Committee, where she champions women’s empowerment and advocates for gender equality ✨

Before her impactful tenure at NLP, Sherlyn made significant contributions at Mapúa University by:

1. Working across multiple sections such as Circulation, Periodicals, Internet, and the Architecture Library under Users and Reading Services

2. Reconfiguring the library’s equipment booking system for improved efficiency

3. Rising to the role of Library and Events Committee Chairperson within just six months, organizing major events like the University’s National Book Week, and leading online and onsite training sessions on database management and research tools

Her academic accomplishments are equally stellar. Sherlyn graduated Summa Cum Laude from Bulacan State University in 2022, earning prestigious awards for:
