The Philippines celebrates 40 years of restored democracy today, marking the four-decade milestone of the EDSA People Power Revolution ✨✊

February 25, 1986, thousands of Filipinos gathered at Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) highway, bravely fighting for the freedom denied to the former president Ferdinand Marcos Sr. 🕊️⚖️

From his years of rule where thousands of lives were lost and abused 🕯️, the Philippines was given hope and justice again 🌅💛—the Filipinos rose again 🇵🇭
The EDSA People Power Revolution awakened the Filipinos, marking the end of abusive and unjust government rule.

[ 🎞️ 𝖱𝖮𝖫𝖫 𝖢𝖠𝖬𝖤𝖱𝖠. 𝖠𝖢𝖳𝖨𝖮𝖭. ] The neon flickers, the city breathes, and through the lens of Ishmael Bernal, the shadows of Manila finally find their voice. 📽️

As a 𝕹𝖆𝖙𝖎𝖔𝖓𝖆𝖑 𝕬𝖗𝖙𝖎𝖘𝖙 𝖋𝖔𝖗 𝕱𝖎𝖑𝖒, he was a social surgeon who dissected the Filipino psyche with sharp wit and 𝖚𝖓𝖈𝖔𝖒𝖕𝖗𝖔𝖒𝖎𝖘𝖎𝖓𝖌 𝖗𝖊𝖆𝖑𝖎𝖘𝖒. Whether exploring the spiritual crisis of Himala or the gritty pulse of the streets, he choreographed the tensions of a nation in transition, capturing the 𝙫𝙤𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙗𝙚𝙖𝙩 of the pavement. 🏙️📹

𝕬𝖗𝖙𝖎𝖘𝖙 𝖔𝖋 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝕯𝖆𝖞, ✨ Francisco V. Coching (1919-1998) ✨

Francisco V. Coching, named as the “Dean of Filipino Illustrators,” is a central figure in the development of Filipino comics. Gregorio Coching, his father, inspired him to create dozens of iconic comics, such as Pedro Penduko and Hagibis. 👨‍🎨

His colourful story-filled illustrations raised awareness of the 19th-century and established Filipino cultural identity through folklore themes. 🖌 He greatly inspired and influenced younger Filipino illustrators. he was posthumously awarded the “National Artist for Visual Art,” the highest honor for artists in the Philippines, after his passing in 1998. 🎨

Known as the "𝔖𝔲𝔭𝔢𝔯𝔰𝔱𝔞𝔯" 𝔬𝔣 𝔓𝔥𝔦𝔩𝔦𝔭𝔭𝔦𝔫𝔢 ℭ𝔦𝔫𝔢𝔪𝔞, Aunor etched her name in the nation's history as the cultural force that shook up the big screen for over 5 decades.✨

Born in Iriga City, Camarines Sur, she lived in poverty selling peanuts and water bottles in front of train stations to make ends meet. 🥜 Despite this, Aunor was a performer of many talents, slowly climbing her way out of poverty and onto the stage. Starting off with singing, then transitioning to acting, and eventually becoming a producer. 💃

Aunor continued to amaze the nation and capture the hearts of many Filipinos through her various live performances and appearances both in television and film. In June 2022, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCAA) officially named Nora a National Artist for Film and Broadcast. After she passed away on April 16, 2025, an entire era died alongside her. 🌷

He didn't need a grand orchestra to move a nation; he only needed the greenery under his feet and the 𝖕𝖔𝖊𝖙𝖗𝖞 𝖎𝖓 𝖍𝖎𝖘 𝖘𝖔𝖚𝖑. From the cradle's soft ‘Ugoy’ to the festive spirit of our Christmas mornings, his lyrics remain the 𝖛𝖎𝖇𝖗𝖆𝖓𝖙 𝖍𝖊𝖆𝖗𝖙𝖇𝖊𝖆𝖙 of the land we hold dear. 🎶✨

🌱Edith L. Tiempo, a pillar of Philippine literature. Edith Tiempo shaped her words with quiet strength, enduring conviction and grace. A poet, fictionist, teacher and National Artist, she did not merely write— but laid the foundations for the traditions of excellence that made Filipino Literature thrive. 🌿

🌳Her rich poetry— filled with insight and discipline. She nurtured voices and generations of writers. Their works not only affecting the heart, but soothed the soul. ❤️‍🔥

✨ Her words carried a symphonic precision, rising above chaotic cacophony and transforming emotion into something that held meaning, silence turned resonating. ✨

More than just a writer, she was a mentor whose influence stretched far and wide beyond pages. Her dedication to her craft shaped minds, strengthened Filipino Literature and reminded aspiring authors that writing isn’t that simple— It is an art and responsibility. 🖋️🌿

Regarded as the “𝙁𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙤𝙛 𝙋𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙈𝙤𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙣 𝘼𝙧𝙩,” Victorio Edades boldly broke away from classical ideals of beauty and realism to introduce distortion, rough textures, and emotional intensity into Philippine painting. Born in Dagupan, Pangasinan, his works challenged audiences to confront truth rather than comfort, often depicting laborers, urban life, and raw human struggle. 🖌️

Through his fearless embrace of modernism, Edades paved the way for a new generation of Filipino artists to explore social realities and personal expression beyond tradition. His influential work The Builders stands as a manifesto of his belief that art must reflect the grit and complexity of real life. 🎨
