Our guest doctor had an emergency and couldn’t make it today - but that didn’t stop our little medics!🩺

Our toddlers stepped right into the role, pretending to care for their “hurt” teddy bears and putting on little “band-aids”. Along the way, they explored body parts like the neck, knees, and shoulders - and, more importantly, began exploring the simple idea of taking care of our bodies when they need help. ❤️

Learning about our bodies isn’t only about naming body parts . It’s also about understanding that our bodies need care, comfort, gentleness, and attention.

She saw a familiar-looking container and connected it to something she already knew from home - haplas and watching the adults in her family care for themselves.

Toddlers build connections from everyday experiences. A simple container in the classroom can suddenly bring a piece of home into their play.

We love these moments- not just because they make us laugh, but because they give us a little peek into how a toddler’s mind is making sense of the world.🌱

Our life-sized body tracings got a colorful makeover🫟🎨

Our little buds took their giant silhouettes outdoors and turned them into colorful canvases.

As they painted, reached, stretched, squatted, and moved around their life-sized bodies, they were continuing to explore body awareness, fine-motor control, and creativity- all through play.

From tracing their bodies to painting them, our little buds are discovering their amazing bodies one experience at a time. 💛🌱

Honestly, this sentence hits adults too. 😂

The difference is that at two, we’re learning it for the first time, and everyone expects us to be messy about it.

As adults, we’re just expected to have mastered it. 😅🥹

But really, learning how to be with other people while still being ourselves is something we keep figuring out at every age. ♥️

To kick off our September theme, “Me and My Amazing Body”, our little buds explored life-sized body tracing right on our classroom floor.

Some were wonderfully engaged and focused- watching the crayon move around them. Others participated in their own way. Our newest little bud even attempted to stand up while I was still tracing her. And one chose not to participate, just as he sometimes does with playdough, painting and glue. We respect that, too.

Not all toddlers participate in the same way - and that’s okay. Learning can happen through doing, observing, moving, or simply being nearby.

And little by little, they are discovering something wonderfully important: this is my body, these are my body parts, and this is what my amazing body can do.💛

During our recent playdough session, our little buds were strengthening different muscles and practicing important coordination skills - all while simply playing.

There’s no single “right” way to use the playdough. Toddlers can squeeze, poke, chop, roll, flatten, and reshape - building strength, coordination, focus, and confidence at their own pace.
