BukSU Economics Program Celebrates 50 Years of Academic Excellence

Bukidnon State University’s (BukSU) Economics Program is celebrating its 50th Golden Anniversary, marking half a century as one of the institution’s foundational offerings. Since its establishment in 1976, the Bachelor of Arts in Economics program has steadily produced critical thinkers, policy leaders, and economic innovators who contribute significantly to regional and national development.

A major highlight of the milestone event was honoring distinguished alumni for their achievements. Hon. Harvey C. Mediante served as the guest speaker and was recognized with a Leadership Award. The ceremony also honored other outstanding graduates whose leadership and vision demonstrate BukSU’s dedication to transformative education. Leadership Awards were presented to Ms. Elsie Gail C. Ocaya (First Batch Alumna), Mr. Juntelie T. Goc-ong, and Atty. Voltaire C. Mojica. A Trailblazer Award was presented to Ms. Marichou Lino-ay.

By celebrating these exemplary graduates, the department recognizes their lasting legacy and service while setting a high standard of excellence for future BukSU Economists.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the BukSU Economics Department, we pleased to share a glimpse of Volume 2 of our students' research featured in the ADEE Journal.

The studies included range from production economics and data analytics to sustainable economics. This collection presents the diverse interests of our economics students, exemplifying their analytical prowess in understanding the realities and challenges on the ground. Appropriate economic and econometric tools were applied to generate insights relevant to communities.

Beyond this compendium of studies, this volume represents 50 years of empowering economic minds. 50 years of learning. 50 years of contributing meaningfully to DEVELOPMENT. And, a continuing commitment to shaping a more informed and sustainable future.

Today, August 19, 2026, the Economics Department of Bukidnon State University participated in the Policy Pitch Colloquium: Policy Brief Foundations, held at the 4th Floor Research Building, BukSU, in collaboration with the U.S. Peace Corps Philippines.

Representing the Department, 𝙀𝙣𝙋. 𝘼𝙙𝙧𝙞𝙖𝙣𝙚 𝙅𝙤𝙝𝙣 𝙋. 𝙇𝙪𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙙𝙤 presented policy options for 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆, emphasizing evidence-based planning and research-informed policy.

The policy pitching and feedback session brought together key stakeholders from the Department of Health (DOH), City Government of Malaybalay, Provincial Government of Bukidnon, and San Isidro College, providing valuable perspectives toward developing practical and responsive policy solutions.

From research to policy, towards better communities.
