Inspiring sharing of insights and engaging team-building activities allowed everyone to deepen connections and celebrate the journey weโ€™ve taken together throughout the year.

The celebration continued with the fellowship lunch, followed by fun activities like videoke and swimming, created moments of joy, laughter, and lasting memories.
Truly, it was a day of unity, gratitude, and renewed purpose as we move forward together in service and faith.

'WE ARE DUST IN THE UNIVERSE,
YET WE ARE DUST LOVED BY GOD.'

โ€”POPE FRANCIS

As we observe Lent, we are invited to confront the sobering reality that no matter our wealth, power, or privilege, we are ultimately subject to the divine decree of mortality. This awareness echoes the wisdom of Marcus Aurelius, a Stoic philosopher, who urged us to live purposefully, humbly, and with grace, knowing that lifeโ€™s fleeting nature is an inescapable truth. The late Pope Francis beautifully reminded us that "we are dust in the universe," emphasizing our smallness in the vast cosmos, yet he also assures us that "we are dust loved by God," highlighting the divine love that sustains us despite our fragility.

The inevitability of death and the vastness of creation underscore the importance of aligning our lives with eternal values rather than transient worldly pursuits. Lent offers a sacred opportunity to turn inward, seek mercy, and deepen our love for God and neighbor, recognizing that preparation for eternal life surpasses any material achievement. It is a season that calls us to examine our hearts, to let mortality and divine love shape our priorities, and to embrace humility and gratitude for each day granted to us. Ultimately, our focus should not be on accumulating possessions or status but on cultivating a soul ready to meet its Creator, for in the end, it is how prepared we are for eternity that truly matters.

As we journey through Lent, may these reflections inspire us to live with purpose, grounded in the awareness of our mortality, and committed to spiritual renewal, so that when our time comes, we may face the divine with peace and faith.

ASH WEDNESDAY IS A DAY OF:

โœ“FASTING (18-59 YEARS OLD)
โœ“ABSTINENCE (14 AND ABOVE)

A friendly reminder from your HugotSeminarista family:

Today is ASH WEDNESDAY. As Catholics, we are encouraged to do the following practices: FASTING and ABSTINENCE.

(1) FASTING
- It is a form of penance that involves limiting kinds or amount of food or drink consumption.
- Catholics who are 18-59 years old are eligible to this practice.
- Days of fasting (with abstinence) are Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
- During fasting, the faithful should only eat 1 regular meal and 2 small meals (should not exceed the main amount of the main meal)
- Fast is broken by eating between meals and by drinks which could be considered food (milk shakes, but not milk).

(2) ABSTINENCE
- It is another form of penance that involves refraining from kinds of food or drink.
- This should be practiced by Catholics who are 14 years old and above (until death).
- During abstinence, the faithful should refrain from eating meat (i.e. flesh and organs of mammals and birds), but may consume fish and shellfish.
- Days of abstinence are Fridays in Lent.

N.B. Some people can be excused from fasting and abstinence. They are:

- persons with disabilities which make it difficult to understand or observe the practice (e.g. people with mental health concerns)
- the sick, frail, pregnant, or nursing women, according to need for meat or nourishment
- manual laborers, according to need
- guests at a meal who cannot excuse themselves without giving great offence or causing enmity
- those in other situations of moral or physical impossibility to observe the penitential discipline
