The netflix documentary, The Death of a Pastor’s Wife is a sobering reminder of something the church must never forget: being a pastor does not mean being perfect, and holding a sacred position does not automatically make someone holy.

We do not know the whole truth behind the story and we should be careful not to pass judgment where the evidence does not allow us. But the broader lesson remains: a title, position, pulpit or ministry reputation can never be a substitute for godly character.

The pulpit does not make a man holy. Christ does and genuine holiness is demonstrated not merely by what happens behind the pulpit but by what happens when no one is watching.

Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful. 1 Corinthians 4:2

We mourn the death of Rev. William, a Baptist pastor in Myanmar who faithfully served his congregation for more than 25 years before he was killed after being detained by the military.

His life reminds us that while some of us serve the Lord with freedom, others serve Him at great personal risk even at the cost of their lives.

Let us not waste the freedom we have.

If they can continue serving Christ amid persecution, let us continue serving Him amid comfort.

Let us continue to preach the Gospel, disciple believers and remain faithful to the cause of Christ.

“Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.” Revelation 2:10
