I am who I am today because I was raised with both love and discipline.
My parents didn’t just fill my life with affection—
they shaped me with values, boundaries, and lessons that prepared me for the real world.

They taught me how to be kind,
but also how to be strong.
They showed me how to care deeply,
but also how to stand firm when life gets hard.

Love made me feel safe.
Discipline taught me how to grow.

There were moments I didn’t understand their rules.
Times I questioned their strictness.
Seasons when I thought they were being too hard on me.
But looking back now, I see the truth clearly—
every correction was protection,
and every boundary was built out of love.

Minsan hindi ko agad nakita…
pero ang tibay ko ngayon, galing sa disiplina na itinuro nila noon.

Because of them, I learned how to respect myself.
I learned how to respect others.
I learned how to stay grounded when success comes
and stay hopeful when challenges appear.

Being filled with love gave me confidence.
Being trained with discipline gave me character.
And together, they gave me a foundation that no storm can easily shake.

If I ever become half the parent they were to me,
I will know I did something right.

my father made a good point when he said:

when a flashlight grows dim or quits working, you don't throw it away, you change the batteries.

when a person messes up and finds themselves in a dark place. do you cast them aside? of course not, you help them change their batteries!

some need AA batteries. attention and affection; some need AAA. attention, affection and acceptance.
some need C. compassion.
some need D. direction.

and if they still don't seem to shine. simply sit with them quietly and share your light.
