Hello Science Fans! 🤓 Akala natin dati na ang flow of genetic information ay one-way lang—from DNA to RNA to protein—but science always has exceptions.

Through a process called reverse transcription, RNA can actually be used as a template to create DNA. This happens in certain viruses, like retroviruses, and has become a powerful tool in biotechnology and research. It challenges the “rules” we first learn in biology and reminds us that life is more flexible and complex than we expect.

Understanding processes like this opens the door to innovations in medicine, genetics, and even how we study evolution itself.

Hello Science Fans! 🤓

Reposting this SHE-ensya video on one of the most important molecules in biology—DNA. In this episode, we go back to basics: what DNA is, how it was discovered, its structure, and its essential role in all living organisms.

We also introduce nucleic acids as a group of biomolecules, including RNA, and break down how DNA and RNA differ in function and form. Understanding these molecules is key to understanding how life works at the most fundamental level.

And yes—science history comes with its own drama. From major discoveries to controversies in the scientific community (yes, even the “canceling” of Watson and Crick gets mentioned), the story of DNA is as fascinating as the molecule itself. Science is not just data and structure—it is also people, context, and history.

Nucleic acids really are powerful molecules. If you understand them, you begin to understand how information flows in life itself… though of course, we are not actually planning world domination 😄

Hello Science Fans! 🤓

The central dogma of Biology is basically the “flow of information” inside living organisms—from DNA to RNA to protein.

Think of DNA as the master blueprint, RNA as the messenger, and proteins as the final products that actually do the work in our cells. This process is at the heart of everything biological—growth, repair, metabolism, and even how our bodies respond to the environment.

Once you understand this, you start seeing how elegant and interconnected life really is at the molecular level. It’s one of those concepts that looks simple at first, pero when you go deeper, you realize how powerful it is in explaining life itself.

Hello Science Fans! 🤓

Why choose STEM? 🤔

Meet this week’s SHE-ensya ambassador, Gerjade Jasmine D. Cuarto, a BS BIO-MBB student whose journey began with curiosity and grew into a commitment to science and medicine. 🌱🔬

💬 *"I have always been the child who endlessly asked “whys,” as I wanted to know more than what meets the eye. I remember having fun watching The Magic School Bus, reading National Geographic books, and even performing my own little experiments, strengthening that curiosity with every answer, which generated even more questions. Now, as a biology student, that curiosity has become a commitment. In the laboratory, I explore the complexities of life, and in the future, I aim to carry this passion into medicine, to apply it not just to understand knowledge, but to heal.

Science and technology rely on diverse perspectives, with both men and women equally represented, so that no potential discoveries are overlooked. As a woman in STEM, I see it as a field responsible for the world’s progress, which is why bias and discrimination should have no place in it. Gender should not determine who contributes—because with equal opportunities, individuals can realize their potential and contribute to society. I genuinely hope more individuals will be empowered to choose and thrive in STEM."*

Hello Science Fans! 🤓

The Apollo 11 mission is one of the most iconic moments in human history—ito yung unang beses na nakatapak ang tao sa buwan.

When Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin stepped onto the lunar surface, it wasn’t just a victory for the United States, but for humanity as a whole. It showed what science, engineering, and global effort can achieve when pushed to their limits. Beyond the flags and footprints, Apollo 11 also opened the door for modern space science, satellite technology, and future missions that continue to expand our understanding of the universe.

It reminds us that what once seemed impossible can become reality when curiosity meets determination.

Hello Science Fans! 🤓

Reposting this SHE-ensya video about one of the most exciting milestones in recent space history—the first all-civilian crew going to space. This moment sparked a lot of hope for future space travelers, making us wonder: will space exploration someday be open to all of us?

In this episode, we talk about Inspiration4 and why it is such a unique achievement compared to earlier space missions and billionaire-led space tourism. It represents a shift in how we think about access to space, participation, and possibility.

But we also take a step back and ask important questions. Just because we can go to space, should we already be pushing for widespread space travel? What are the ethical, scientific, and practical implications of making space more accessible at this stage in human development? Sometimes progress is not just about moving forward quickly, but also about moving wisely.

If you’ve ever dreamed of space exploration, this conversation is for you—balancing wonder with critical thinking.

Hello Science Fans! 🤓

Space exploration might feel far away from our daily lives, pero in reality, it shapes so many things we rely on today.

From satellite-based internet to climate monitoring and disaster preparedness, marami tayong nakukuhang benefits from studying what’s beyond our planet. It also pushes human curiosity further—pinapakita nito na walang limit ang ating knowledge when we invest in science and innovation.

And for countries like the Philippines, where climate and environmental challenges are very real, space science can actually help us better understand and respond to what’s happening here on Earth. 🚀

Hello Science Fans! 🤓

Why choose STEM? 🤔

Meet this week’s SHE-ensya ambassador, Angela Pan, a BS Human Biology student whose journey shows how growth, challenge, and compassion can shape a future in science. 🌱🔬

💬 *"I can’t trace my decision to pursue STEM to a single moment. It was one of the areas I struggled with most in high school, yet I became increasingly drawn to it and motivated to improve. Over time, it also became a source of growth and fulfillment, and I learned to value the discipline and problem-solving it requires.

My commitment to STEM and medicine, in particular, also developed gradually through frequent hospital visits as a child, where I witnessed firsthand the unique trust between patients and physicians. This deepened as I saw doctors go beyond clinical care to support my father and provide comfort to my family during difficult times, further inspiring me to provide compassionate care to patients in the future.

I would also like to advocate for gender equality and representation in STEM, especially in research and healthcare. As STEM remains male-dominated, the needs and contributions of women are often overlooked, depriving us of meaningful societal progress. By fostering a more inclusive environment for women in STEM, we empower them to actively influence the direction of scientific inquiry and innovation, ensuring that advancements are more representative of society as a whole."*
