𝗙𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗗 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗟: When the water rises, where does the money go? 👀🌊

Every rainy season, Filipinos face the same problem: 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠. And every year, billions of pesos are allocated to help address it.

But what happens when the solution itself becomes part of the problem?

With climate-related spending reaching ₱1 trillion in 2025, questions about how public funds are 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐝, 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝, and used deserve 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.

Flood control projects may 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭 communities, but concerns over questionable projects, poor planning, and corruption raise an important issue:

Climate change demands 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, but action without transparency and accountability can leave communities vulnerable.

Because flood control should 𝐧𝐨𝐭 only be about concrete, canals, and billions in funding.

Trailblazers, can a leader truly lead while tearing their own members down?

Have you ever experienced being in a club where everybody's talking badly to each other? Whether doing your best — or being in a conflict where you can't cooperate with them for a while? One of our fellow students shared their experience in a club where they make others feel like they're lacking, even though they're trying their best. What could be the reminders for entitled officers like that? 🤔

A good leader encourages and supports their members so they become confident enough to 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, and 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰. True leadership is not about showing how capable you are — it's about 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐞.

Always remember that having a position does not make someone a good leader, how they treat the people they lead does. Officers are given the authority not to embarrass, belittle or make the others feel insignificant. Mistakes, misunderstandings and failures are normal but it should not be the reason to disrespect someone.

To every officers and future leaders: 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝 with 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭, 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐲 and 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲. Always communicate with 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥, and 𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐣𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠. Your members should not be afraid of you and instead be comfortable enough to speak up, express their ideas and grow throughout their journey with you.

Because at the end of the day, your position does not make you a good leader, but 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐚 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫.

As Mark Twain reminds us, “The secret of getting ahead is getting started.” Even when classes are suspended, we can still move forward by taking small, meaningful steps, one lesson, one task, and one effort at a time. We don’t have to finish everything today, we simply have to start.

Because every small step we take, even during the storm, brings us closer to the dreams we’re working for. Classes may be suspended, but our purpose doesn’t have to be.

𝗣𝗔𝗫 𝗦𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗖𝗔: Progress, or a Price we‘re not seeing? 👀

AI. Semiconductors. Investments. Jobs. Sounds like progress, right? 🤔

But before we get excited about the promises of technology and economic growth, there’s a bigger question we need to ask:

“𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭?”

Pax Silica is a U.S-led initiative aimed at strengthening the global supply chain for semiconductors, artificial intelligent, critical minerals, and advanced manufacturing. The Philippines is among the countries involved, with plans for an 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐮𝐛 in Luzon.

On one side, proponents highlight its potential to bring major investments, create jobs, strengthen the country’s technology sector, and place the Philippines in a more strategic position in the global semiconductor industry.

But on the other side, concerns cannot be simply be ignored.

Critics and environmental groups have raised questions about the project’s potential 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝 for 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 and 𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭, 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲, and 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬.

And that brings us to the bigger question:

“𝐈𝐬 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡 𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐢𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐩𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐞?”

The issue is not simply about rejecting technology or development. It is about making sure that development does not come before environmental safeguards, transparency, resource security, and the rights of affected communities.

If the possible risks have not been thoroughly addressed, a project of this scale should not be rushed.

Because real progress is not measured only by how much investment we attract or how many jobs we create.

Real progress means 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞, 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬, or the 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝.

A clean and organized comfort room isn’t just the responsibility of our school staff—it’s everyone’s responsibility, including ours as students. Every time we use the comfort rooms, we have to choices: 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧 or 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐞𝐥𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡.

And honestly, cleaning up after ourselves isn’t that hard. 🧹🫧 Properly disposing of our trash, flushing after use, and keeping the area tidy may seem like 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, but 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚 𝐡𝐮𝐠𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞.

The next person who enters the comfort room could be you. Would you want to walk into a clean and comfortable space—or someone else’s mess? 👀

School life isn’t always easy, but every obstacle is an opportunity to grow stronger, wiser, and more resilient.

Through the feedback form, our fellow students shared their concerns and suggestions regarding canteen prices, food quality, and hygiene. We encourage students to bring packed meals from home whenever possible as a practical way to reduce daily food expenses and promote healthier eating habits. At the same time, we encourage the school to continue providing affordable, nutritious, and hygienic food options for students who rely on the canteen. These efforts can help create a healthier and more supportive school environment for everyone.

We extend our appreciation to everyone who took the time to participate and share their thoughts. Your honesty helps us better understand the needs of our fellow students and inspires meaningful improvements.
