The official representatives of PHILSEA raised questions that dealt with legal resolutions to suspicious military activities occurring in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of a coastal state, the balancing of freedom of navigation operations and resource exploration activities in the EEZ, the procedural aspects of interpreting Articles 281 and 282 of the Law of the Sea Convention (LOSC), and whether the Philippines can legally challenge the vertical datums used by another state over high-tide features, among others.

Executive Director Sape provided additional information as regards the Philippine Extended Continental Shelf (ECS) claim at the West Palawan Region and how to briefly respond to foreign vessels navigating near Pag-asa Island located outside the Philippine EEZ. He also clarified that the Philippine EEZ have pockets of high-tide features that are legally considered as rocks with their own territorial seas. In the last session, he strongly encouraged fellow participants and the Filipino public to invest in legal training for a holistic understanding of the law of the sea. He likewise put forward a proposal to have a Specialised Track on Law of the Sea across Philippine law schools.

The National Symposium on LOS and WPS was organised and hosted by the We Protect our Seas Foundation and partnered with different government agencies, law schools, and news media in the Philippines.
