Every day, we are flooded with random content designed to shape our worldview. Social media pretends to know who we are. It makes us think we are in control.

More often than not, what we don't realize is that we are being played. We lose who we are and, along with it, our voice.

As professional speakers convene, we believe that communicating with sincerity and authenticity is the path toward meaningful human connection.

This year’s theme, "True to the Message," invites us to return to a simple truth: fake, no matter how flashy, is still fake. And there is nothing more powerful than a true message communicated with impact.

By far the most interesting batch in years, with one thing in common among all the students who are now graduates and now called Certified Public Speakers or CPS®.

Of course such commonality becomes a joke within the batch! But I'm proud to have been given the opportunity to have coached these diverse group of learners! May judge, may climate change advocate, may student, may teacher, may accountant, may entrepreneur, may finance manager sa international logistics company. :D

Naging suki na ang founder ng Public Speaking Institute ng PhilSTAR Life sa pag-a-analyze ng SONA ng Pangulong Bongbong Marcos taon-taon:

"The first three minutes of his speech was a strategic approach to getting attention by getting right into the heart of the audience," Luna said. "And having the first few minutes spoken in Filipino, it intentionally targeted the masses—the most affected by the flood control mess. Sila 'yung galit na galit."

"It was also strategic because he took off from where he left off one year ago. The audience was treated to a 'sequel'," Luna added.

"In closing, Marcos uttered, "We do not yield," in reference to the West Philippine Sea dispute. For Luna, it effectively provided a shift in perspective.

"It practically buried the flood control mess... and shifted the conversation way far from corruption. He surgically shifted the people's attention from domestic issues to an international crusade," Luna said.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s 2026 State of the Nation Address had both strong and weak points.

The reason why many people are ineffective in oral communication particularly in public setting before a crowd is simple: they present more than they converse.

Presentation is what we do in college. We carried the samw idea even after we are long gone from school.

We still think people listen to us because of the information we say? Wrong. People listen when they find you interesting.

They can find the information elsewhere. But you should make them see you are worth their attention.

Presentation may make them sit. Conversation makes them engage.
