1️⃣ Check the pH → Acidemia (7.45)?
2️⃣ Look at PaCO₂ → Respiratory component.
3️⃣ Look at HCO₃⁻ → Metabolic component.
4️⃣ Compensation check → Is it appropriate or mixed disorder?
5️⃣ Oxygenation → PaO₂/FiO₂ ratio for severity (especially in ARDS).
🔑 Remember: ROME → Respiratory Opposite, Metabolic Equal.
(Respiratory disorders → pH and PaCO₂ move in opposite directions;
Metabolic disorders → pH and HCO₃⁻ move in same direction).
