The Office of the Student Regent wishes to inform the student body regarding concerns raised on the computation of the General Weighted Average (GWA), particularly on the reported inclusion of PATHFIT grades in the GWA reflected in some students' academic records.
On May 29, 2026, the Office of the Student Regent received reports from student leaders and students expressing concern that their PATHFIT grades appeared to have been included in the computation of their GWA.
As provided under the University of Makati 2021 Revised Student Handbook, Article IV: Academic-Administrative Policies, Section 16, the General Weighted Average (GWA) is computed based on all enrolled academic courses, excluding Physical Education (PE) and the National Service Training Program (NSTP). In view of this provision, students sought clarification on whether the inclusion of PATHFIT in the GWA computation is consistent with existing university policies or the result of a recent policy modification.
๐๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ ๐จ๐ป๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ฎ๐ธ๐ฒ๐ป:
During the 13th Executive Committee (ExCom) Meeting held on June 4, 2026, the Student Regent formally raised the concern before the Executive Committee. Following the discussion, the University President recommended that the matter be formally referred to the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA) for clarification and appropriate review.
Pursuant to this recommendation, the Student Regent submitted a formal letter to the OVPAA on June 5, 2026, seeking clarification on the inclusion of PATHFIT grades in the computation of the GWA and requesting guidance on the applicable policy governing the matter.
During the 14th Executive Committee (ExCom) Meeting held on June 18, 2026, the OVPAA acknowledged the concern and informed the Committee that the matter will be referred to the Office of the University Registrar for further evaluation. The OVPAA likewise assured the Committee that the concern is now under review and that the Management Committee shall take the necessary steps to determine the appropriate course of action while ensuring that students will not be unduly prejudiced by the outcome of the review.
The Office of the Student Regent remains committed to upholding transparency, safeguarding student welfare, and ensuring that concerns affecting the student body are properly represented before the University Administration. Updates shall be provided as soon as official information becomes available from the concerned offices.
