On October 10, the Makati High School-Special Program in Foreign Language (MHS-SPFL) Mandarin students hosted a vibrant Mid-Autumn Festival celebration, sharing their talent and the rich fusion of Filipino-Chinese cuisine and culture at the Audiovisual Room (AVR).
Chinese Mandarin teachers Antonina Canceran and John Carlo Manalo organized the main celebration with SPFL students from grades 7 to 10. The event served as a showcase of Chinese culture and heritage, with students wearing traditional Chinese clothes, including Hanfu, Cheongsam, and Tang suits.
To show solidarity with the theme, attendeesโincluding faculty and other studentsโwere dressed in shirts colored red, a symbol of celebration and prosperity. The students also showcased their talents through dancing and acting performances.
While highlighting the SPFL-Mandarinโs achievements over the past three years, Teacher Canceran underscored the program's enduring success, reminding the learners that "Learning languages has no limitations; it's a new skill."
To complete the festivity, students and teachers imitated the traditional Mooncake Festival celebration by sharing a table of authentic Filipino-Chinese delicacies.
The celebration concluded with a photo opportunity, inviting all attendees to take snaps with the SPFL students, teachers, and performers.
Prior to this day, MHS SPFL-Mandarin built excitement by setting up interactive booths in their classroom to immerse non-SPFL students and teachers in Chinese culture. Among the most visited booths were Calligraphy, Basic Mandarin, and the Photo booth.
