AHA Learning Center

AHA Learning Center AHA! Learning Center started as a free afterschool program in Makati back in 2009. You can help us make this a reality.

At AHA Learning Center, we champion an empathy-informed learning system to address pressing educational gaps for high-potential Filipino students facing learning poverty. Since then we have served over 19,000 students - giving them the most number of free after-school learning hours (6-8 per week, 200-300 hours a year) in the entire country. More than helping our students get good grades, we hope

to produce the next generation of changemakers and community leaders that will serve our country for the better. Send us a message and be part of our success story.

One Week Later...
We're still carrying the lessons from our three-day Teacher Capacity Building with AELF.

What does it really take to help a child succeed?

As teachers strengthened their facilitation skills through Whole Brain Teaching and the Suporta Eskwela Club (SEC), parents also found a safe space to share their stories, hopes, and challenges. Together, we witnessed trust grow and stronger partnerships between schools and families begin to take shape.

By the end of the training, our teachers embraced a new mindsetโ€”not just teaching children, but empowering parents as partners in learning.

Because helping a child succeed takes teachers who listen, parents who feel seen, and a community that chooses to grow together. ๐Ÿ’™

Happy Birthday, Secretary Sonny Angara!

Before this day ends, we celebrate not only your birthday but also your commitment to shaping a brighter future for Filipino learners.

At AHA Learning Center, we see every day how education can change the course of a child's life. Every child who learns to read with confidence, every student who discovers their potential, and every teacher who chooses to keep showing up reminds us why this work matters.

Thank you for your dedication to strengthening education and for supporting efforts that give every Filipino child the opportunity to learn, dream, and succeed.

As we continue working alongside schools, teachers, families, and communities, we look forward to a future where every learner is seen, supported, and empowered.

Wishing you good health, renewed strength, and many more years of meaningful service.

Happy Birthday, Secretary Sonny Angara!

โ€” With gratitude, the AHA Learning Center Family

As part of the Universityโ€™s 2026 Pre-Commencement Ceremonies, the Mindanao State University Tawi-Tawi College of Technology and Oceanography (MSU TCTO) is pleased to announce Antonio โ€œJatonโ€ F. Zulueta, Jr., Founder and Executive Director of the AHA Learning Center, as the Guest of Honor and Speaker for Cluster 1 on July 15, 2026.

An educator, community organizer, and advocate for literacy and educational access, Mr. Zulueta has dedicated his career to expanding learning opportunities for underserved communities. At the age of 19, he began volunteering and witnessed firsthand the literacy challenges faced by many young learners, an experience that inspired him to devote his life to education and community development.

Driven by this commitment, he co-developed the AHA Learning Center, a community- and youth-driven initiative that seeks to ensure that those with the least in life gain access to the best education. Through his work in education and community empowerment, he has helped create meaningful learning opportunities for countless young people.

Mr. Zuluetaโ€™s contributions have earned recognition from the Ashoka Foundation, the Obama Foundation, and The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) of the Philippines. He likewise serves in leadership roles in various educational organizations in the Philippines and abroad.

As members of the Graduating Class of 2026 prepare for the next chapter of their lives, Mr. Zuluetaโ€™s journey serves as a reminder of the transformative power of education, service, and community engagement in creating opportunities and improving lives.

The AHA Teacher Intensive: Trained by DEVCON Kids

Creating meaningful learning experiences begins with investing in teachers.

Nine educators and volunteers from AHA Learning Center โ€“ Sunrise recently completed the DEVCON Kids Lead Learner Workshop on the BBC micro:bit, strengthening their capacity to deliver engaging computer science and digital skills education for our Grades 3โ€“6 learners.

This training marks an important milestone in our commitment to ensuring that children from underserved communities gain equitable access to future-ready learning opportunities. By equipping teachers with practical tools and confidence in coding and computational thinking, we are laying the foundation for classrooms where learners become creators, innovators, and problem-solvers.

We are deeply grateful to DEVCON Kids for their expertise and partnership in empowering our educators. Together, we are proving that sustainable impact begins by investing in teachers, who will go on to inspire thousands of young learners in the years to come.

Yesterday, July 8, 2026, our PNU NSTP students came together for the AHA 1-Day TaRL Assessment Capacity-Building Training! ๐ŸŒŸ Through fun discussions, hands-on activities, and literacy and numeracy assessment simulations, the students learned more about the TaRL approach, learner levels, and how they can support children during the upcoming TaRL assessments. ๐Ÿ“šโœ๏ธ

The day was also filled with meaningful reflections and planning as they explored how to create a child-friendly and encouraging assessment space, record and interpret results, and prepare for their deployment in our partner schools for Project UnLad. Together, we continue empowering future educators with the skills, confidence, and heart to help every child learn at the right level. ๐Ÿ’™โœจ

Last July 4, Day 1 of the ICTSI x AHA Project UnLad: Batch 2 Training of Teacher Champions brought together our Key Stage 2 teacher participants for a meaningful day of learning, reflection, and collaboration. The day focused on building a shared understanding of how Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) can help teachers meet learners where they are through targeted literacy and numeracy instruction. Through discussions, hands-on activities, demonstrations, and reflection spaces, our Teacher Champions explored practical TaRL strategies they can apply as they implement their ARAL sessions.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to ICTSI Foundation for its continued support, and to SDO Manila, Pedro Guevara Elementary School, and Rosauro Almario Elementary School for their partnership and commitment to this initiative. Maraming salamat to our Teacher Champions for showing up with energy, openness, and dedication on Day 1!

๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ“š Day 3: Ready to Make a Difference! ๐Ÿ“š๐ŸŽ‰

Our three-day Pre-Service Teacher Training concluded with a deep dive into the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) Numeracy approach. From number knowledge to the four fundamental operations, our future educators explored engaging activities tailored to every learner's level.

The day was filled with hands-on numeracy demonstrations, practice teaching, and constructive feedback, allowing participants to strengthen both their facilitation skills and confidence in the classroom. They also learned how to use AHA's monitoring and evaluation tools and developed implementation plans to prepare for their upcoming work with the learners of Zamboanga Central School.

As this training comes to a close, we're excited to see these future teachers turn learning into actionโ€”helping every child build strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, and confidence.

Thank you to our partners, the Ateneo Learning and Teaching Excellence Center (ALTEC) and the AdZU School of Education, for making this meaningful learning journey possible. Here's to creating classrooms where every child can learn and thrive! ๐Ÿ’™โœจ
