❗️A CALL FOR ACCOUNTABILITY, INDEPENDENCE, FIDELITY TO THE CONSTITUTION AND IMPARTIALITY❗️

Recently, the nation has witnessed a series of events that exposed the growing dominance of political interests over genuine public service by the very officials elected to uphold the welfare of the Filipino people. We have become a mockery in the international stage as these incidents unfold — from the sudden transition in Senate leadership, to the supposed service of arrest warrant of a sitting senator, and to the alleged attacks against the august hall of Senate that stands as one of the very pillars of our democracy.

We, at the CEU Law Office of Legal Aid, passionately emphasize: Not a single Filipino deserves this kind of governance. Not a single Filipino should suffer the consequences of the egoistic ambitions, partisan maneuverings, and selfish interests of political figures, parties, or ideological factions. Public office is a public trust—not a platform for personal power struggles or political retaliation.

Tomorrow, the Senate will convene as an impeachment court pursuant to its Constitutional mandate. At this critical moment in our nation’s history, we urge the Senate to uphold the valued democratic principles: the rule of law, accountability, independence, fidelity to the Constitution, impartiality, and the commitment to truth and justice.

The Filipino people deserve leaders who act not out of loyalty to personalities or political alliances, but out of faithfulness to the Constitution and the sovereign will of the people. The Senate must remember that history will judge not only the outcome of these proceedings, but also the integrity, courage, and principles demonstrated throughout them.

Now more than ever, our institutions must remain vigilant in protecting our democracy and restoring public trust. In times of uncertainty and division, the nation looks to its leaders not for political theater, but for moral courage worthy of each Filipino’s trust.

The nation watches—not with fear, but with memory.

And memory outlives power.

History waits.

And history has never been kind to those who stood on the wrong side of constitutional accountability. ⚖️
