School safety begins long before an emergency happens. Recent active attack incidents serve as a reminder that preparedness, awareness, and prevention are responsibilities we all share.

But not everything that needs attention can be seen. Sometimes, what a student carries is not inside a bag. It may be stress, anger, fear, loneliness, or problems they do not know how to talk about. Behind a quiet classmate, a sudden change in behavior, or even an unusual outburst may be someone carrying a burden alone.

This is where care for one another matters.

As classmates, friends, and fellow students, we should learn to check on each otherโ€”not to pry, judge, or assume, but to genuinely ask, โ€œAre you okay?โ€ Sometimes, being present and willing to listen can give someone the space they need to unload what they have been carrying.

Creating a safe school environment is not only about identifying dangers. It is also about creating relationships where students feel safe enough to speak before their struggles grow heavier. A friend who listens without making fun of someone, a classmate who offers comfort instead of adding pressure, or a teacher who notices that something is wrong can make a meaningful difference.

Of course, caring does not mean trying to solve every problem on our own. There are situations that require the help of trusted teachers, counselors, school authorities, or other responsible adults. What matters is that when someone reaches outโ€”or when we notice that someone may be strugglingโ€”we respond in ways that help calm the situation rather than worsen it.

Instead of focusing only on what someone might be carrying in their bag, perhaps we should also pay attention to what they may be carrying within themselves.

Safety begins with awareness, but prevention can also begin with care. By checking on one another, listening with empathy, and creating spaces where people feel safe to speak, we help build a school community where no one feels that they have to carry everything alone.

High fashion collided with raw energy as Edentonians seized the Maitum Gymnasium on August 14, 2026, for its Annual Induction and Acquaintance Party.

Carrying the bold banner "Embracing Differences with Confidence and Class," the afternoon kicked off with spirited games before the venue erupted into a kinetic storm of roaring chants during the high-octane yell competition.

Following the thunderous cheers, guest speaker Eduardo Jabalde, Jr., LPT, shared sharp insights, paving the way for formal inductions that swore in a fresh wave of student leaders.

The excitement peaked as the celebration shifted into pure glamour. Radiant students and chic faculty owned the Vogue theme, strutting in striking ensembles alongside an electrifying dance showdown that culminated in a dazzling finale of ka-vogue-able brilliance.

Strengthening its commitment to spiritual formation and student engagement,EMCI brought its academic community together for a chapel hour, general orientation, student assembly, and elections at the Maitum Municipal Gymnasium on August 13, 2026.

School Chaplain Rev. Alejandro S. Begornia Jr. opened the gathering with a message anchored on the theme โ€œBuilding Strong Foundations,โ€ urging students to remain steadfast amid challenges and to ground their lives in faith. He underscored the call, โ€œManindigang matatag, hanggang sa wakas.โ€

The College Department then welcomed freshmen through its General Orientation and Assembly, led by the College Supreme Student Council (CSSC) under the leadership of Jovelyn B. Datang, LPT. The orientation introduced students to school policies, Student Affairs and Services (SAS) fees, Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES) updates, and other academic concerns.

An open forum also provided students with an avenue to raise questions and clarify concerns regarding their college experience.

Adding energy to the gathering, the CSSC and Youth Turn facilitated student-led activities designed to foster camaraderie and strengthen a Christ-centered school community.

The dayโ€™s program also included department and four-division elections, giving students an opportunity to exercise their voice and participate in student leadership.

Through the activities, EMCI underscored the importance of building not only academically prepared students but also individuals grounded in faith, responsibility, and active participation in the school community.

Young voices took center stage as student leaders of Edenton Mission College (EMCI) joined fellow youth advocates and organizations in assessing the role of young people in shaping their community during the State of the Youth Address (SOYA) 2026 at Maitum Municipal Gymnasium.

Held in line with International Youth Day 2026, the gathering brought together student leaders from various schools, the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation, and local youth organizations to discuss youth participation, development, and leadership in the community.

Kenneth Lance Rocapor underscored the importance of reaching every young person as he presented the 10 Centers of Youth Participation, highlighting initiatives designed to strengthen youth involvement in community development.

โ€œYouth must not only reach a few but everyone,โ€ Rocapor said, stressing the need for inclusive governance and meaningful youth action.

The call for broader youth participation was echoed by Xaรฑa Angel Eve Apolinar, who emphasized that youth development goes beyond programs and activitiesโ€”it recognizes the achievements, contributions, potential, and capacity of young people to create change.

The discussions placed emphasis on empowering the youth not merely as beneficiaries of community programs but as active partners in addressing issues and building solutions.

Fresh voices. New perspectives. Another chapter.

New members and returning campus journalists converged at the College Library on August 12 as the Edenton Echo officially opened another chapter through its First Meeting and Orientation.

The gathering introduced new members to the school publication while reconnecting with the returning staff. It also provided an avenue for members to learn about the publicationโ€™s purpose, familiarize themselves with their roles, and understand the responsibilities that come with being part of the campus press.
