Culture Alive in Every Attire
Malakeba Elementary School came alive this August as learners and teachers gathered to celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day, turning an ordinary school day into a meaningful celebration of culture and identity.
What caught everyone’s attention were the learners dressed in their colorful tribal attire. Each design, pattern, and accessory seemed to carry a story—one connected to their roots, traditions, and community.
The celebration was more than simply wearing traditional clothing. It gave the learners an opportunity to appreciate where they came from and understand why their culture deserves to be recognized, respected, and preserved.
With the participation of the teachers and learners, the school became a place where traditions were not only remembered but also proudly displayed. Through their attire and participation, the children showed that culture can remain meaningful even as generations change.
As the celebration came to an end, one message stood out: culture is not simply something we wear—it is a story we carry, a heritage we value, and a legacy we pass on.
