30 S*K Learners Embark on Cultural Field Trip at Obo Monuvu Heritage Site

MAGPET, COTABATO — The School of Indigenous Knowledge (S*K)–Magpet officially launched its 2026 school year last April 18, with an immersive cultural field trip to the Obo Monuvu Cultural Heritage Site at BA Calamba National High School in Barangay Pangao-an, Magpet, Cotabato.

The event, which brought 30 learners to one of the municipality's Indigenous Peoples Education (IPEd) institution, was spearheaded by IPEd/CHLC Coordinator Randy P. Osorno, Principal II Jose D. Sature, EdD, and Assistant Principal II Grace T. Dahan. Together, they highlighted the institution's unwavering dedication to inclusive and culturally grounded education.

This field trip serves as the foundation for a comprehensive eight-month curriculum. Spanning 32 Saturdays, the initiative is designed to deepen students’ appreciation of their history through experiential learning, providing them with vital exposure to the heritage preservation and knowledge systems that form the bedrock of their holistic education.

Central to this eight-month journey is a bridge between generations, anchored by the wisdom of Obo Monuvu Culture Masters. Under the guidance of Lipatuan Joel Buntal, alongside Boe Avelina Maasan, Dorothy Sumampong, and Joseph Bugcal, students were granted a rare opportunity to acquire ancestral traditions directly from the community’s primary keepers of wisdom.

By facilitating this direct mentorship, S*K-Magpet reinforces its commitment to a culturally responsive education. The approach ensures that learners are not only deeply rooted in their unique Obo Monuvu identity but are also being prepared to serve as the next generation of Culture Masters.
