✨ Ocean Science Immersion Program 2026 ✨

From June 14–22, 2026, the pioneering students of the BS Marine Biology Department of Sorsogon State University – Magallanes Campus embarked on an extraordinary journey of learning, discovery, and scientific exploration through the Ocean Science Immersion Program (OSIP).

The immersion began with laboratory, and facility visits to the University of the Philippines Diliman – Marine Science Institute (UP-MSI), where students were exposed to current marine science research and gained insights into the work of leading marine scientists. They also visited the DOST–Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI), broadening their understanding of the applications of science and technology in environmental and marine studies.

Travelling further north, the students proceeded to the UP Bolinao Marine Laboratory, where they attended a lecture series facilitated by Ms. Shaira M. Mendones, Mr. Emer F. Espano, Mr. Edward V. Pepano, and Engr. Gian Carlo M. Malto. The lectures covered fundamental topics in Marine Vertebrates, Marine Invertebrates, Physical Oceanography, Meteorology, and Water Quality Assessment.

The students also gained hands-on experience through field activities at the Malilnep Channel, where they learned the proper use of the Niskin Bottle for water sampling, and at Silaqui Island, where they observed the Giant Clam Nursery and appreciated the importance of marine conservation and resource management.

The journey continued southward to Batangas State University, where the second part of the lecture series was conducted under the mentorship of the VIP Center for Oceanographic Research and Aquatic Life Sciences (VIP CORALS) through Aux. LCdr. Jayvee A. S**o, Ph.D. and Dr. Miguel Enrique Ma. A. Azcuna. Students also underwent the training proper for the Marine Ecosystem Assessment Training, equipping them with practical skills in field and laboratory methods commonly used in marine biology.

This initiative aimed to train students in essential marine science techniques, expose them to major academic and research institutions in the country, and inspire them to pursue meaningful research and thesis studies that contribute to the understanding and conservation of our marine environment.

To our pioneer Marine Biology students, may this experience ignite your passion for research, strengthen your commitment to ocean stewardship, and inspire you to become future leaders in marine science.

The ocean became your classroom, science became your journey, and service to the nation became your purpose.

Sorsogon State University joins the nation in observing Ease of Doing Business (EODB) Month 2026, with the theme: “𝐀𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 (𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐀): 𝐓𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐚 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐠𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐬.”

Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 818, the month of May is declared as 𝙀𝙖𝙨𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝘿𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘽𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙈𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙝, reaffirming the government’s commitment to transparent, accountable, and citizen-centered public service.

This year’s campaign highlights the importance of transparency, accountability, digital transformation, and institutional integrity in delivering efficient governance and meaningful reforms for Filipinos. Anchored on three key pillars: (1) Connectivity and Smart Infrastructure, (2) Transparency and Workforce Empowerment, and (3) Accountability and Integrity, the initiative promotes technology-driven governance, responsive public service, and corruption-free transactions.

In line with this, the University continues to strengthen public awareness on EODB through the dissemination of relevant information, activities, and advocacies in support of the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA). Through reforms, digitalization, and responsive services, SorSU remains committed to integrity and excellence in serving its stakeholders.
